Rants

Only worked in one era

By Scott Keith on 8 August 2024

The flipside to the Any time, any place question. What guy or tag-team got super over in their particular era but likely wouldn't translate into any other era? Like The Stranger in Big Lebowski said, ” Sometimes, there's a man, well, he's the man for his time and place. He fits right in there.” My first guess would be The Rock & Roll Express. Over like gangbusters in the 80s but I can't see that particular presentation being over on the big stage in any other era. Likewise with a guy like JYD. Any others?

The Von Erichs in Texas in the early 80s.  The very definition of capturing the zeitgeist of one particular time and place.  Once it was over, it took the whole promotion down with it.
