AL WILSON IS COMING!!!

Hey man!

LOVING the late-2002 SmackDown recaps on the site (for obvious reasons). Please make sure your readers know that even though we on the 2002 creative team were specifically told not to read anything about wrestling on the Internet, I would read your recaps every chance I could, and often use that as insta-feedback. (I'm still a daily reader, fyi.)

And it's funny – I was going to reach out to you to see about getting some love for a podcast interview I did last week (my first one in about a decade) when I saw this in your latest recap:

“some guy at ringside is wearing a Mysterio mask and Angle slaps him around to make sure he’s not Rey”

“Some guy at ringside” was fellow WWE writer Chris Gough — also the host of the very podcast I was emailing you about. That is some WEIRD timing.

(And as you continue your recaps, keep an eye out for me, as I soon become the “guy we try to get into the background of every Al Wilson backstage segment.” Also, if you or your readers have ANY questions about anything from that time, you know where to find me.)

Anyway, hope you like the podcast — we barely scratch the surface of things, but a fun (and surprisingly in-depth at times) discussion on WWE & creative back in the day, how the business got to this point, and a bunch of stories in between. Most podcasts now are with people who are either (a) on a company payroll, (b) trying to get on a company payroll or (c) trying to get a spot at one of those post-PPV influencer conventions. We’re two guys happily out of the business just shooting the shit. Hope you enjoy. (And Chris’ rant against certain people in AEW before my interview even starts is just tremendous.)
