So if Steamboat doesn't leave WWF in late 1991 and sticks it out through 92 and into 93 do you think there is a chance he gets Bret's spot at the top? Even though he was largely a mid carder in his stay surely his run with Flair in '89 had to show he could have great matches in a main event setting. Or was Vince still pissed at him for daring to ask for time off in '87 and he just wasn't going to hitch his wagon to him again?

No chance Vince gives him a main event slot. If you’ve got heat with Vince and you don’t have Hulk in your corner then you end up doing midcard jobs while dressed as a dragon.
