Flowers for Fight Forver
By Scott Keith on July 4, 2023
Hey Scott! I know you obviously are enjoying Fight Forever based on what you've said but to give a take from someone that doesn't necessarily follow AEW all the time I wanted to say this.
I love what 2K has done with 2K22 and now 2K23. I'm used to the controls and the depth of content with roster, moves, etc. is amazing. But, almost every match I have is some 5 star main event classic and I can see why that's not everyone's cup of tea, it's
not very intuitive for a newcomer.
Yuke's really did what Kenny and co. set out to do with Fight Forever. It's an absolute extension of their GameCube engine (eg. the Day of Reckoning games) with further AKI influence inserted in. In fact, so many of the move animations and mechanics are culled
from those perhaps forgotten GameCube games, but those who know what I'm talking about will get it. It's truly a love letter to that engine and fun as hell.
Is it deep? On a roster and mode level no, and the CAW sucks all the asses imaginable but the novelty in playing a new game with an engine so similar to old favorites is really fun! I won't tell anyone to go spend 60/70 bucks on something (at this moment) barebones
but the base is truly there. Really fun game, really well made as a first effort. I hope the future holds more for the AEW games, and that's coming from someone that wasn't really a big AEW fan, but it made me look into the product more.
At the moment I have two goals in the game: Create a half-decent Jerry Lawler CAW, and get 100 exhibition matches so I can unlock Owen Hart. I ran through Road to Elite once with my subpar Jason the Terrible attempt but apparently I've got a few more runs to get the other unlocks I want. But yes, above all the game is FUN to play. Except handicap matches in Road to Elite, FUCK them. Gives me PTSD flashbacks to No Mercy and the matches against the APA. This guy knows what I'm talking about.
Anyway, I've been popping on Twitch on and off and streaming my Jerry Lawler CAW attempts and other stuff that's not really exciting, but my family is always buzzing around the living room so I haven't tried it with a headset so you can hear my hilarious and delightful running commentary yet. But I'm RSPWFAQ2 on Twitch if you want to follow me for whatever reason.
