Hey Scott,

I realize that this is not a “hot take”, but I'm starting to believe that Roman is not dropping the championship until next year's mania.

You still have Lashley, Styles, Seth, The Usos, Solo, Orton (if he can return), etc. as possible challengers to fill about nine months until Roman turns his attention back to Cody. You could even run it back with Sami as a challenger again.

Now, none of the names I mentioned would be believable to win the Title, especially at a secondary PPV (with the exception of maybe Rollins). However, I'm thinking that Hunter, Vince or whomever is running things believes that a title reign this long should really only end at Mania (and, yes, I was in favor of Cody getting the strap at this year's Mania, but, oh well).

I think they’re indeed chasing the dragon with the Reigns reign. And it’s going to backfire with an injury sooner or later if they don’t pull the trigger on someone.
