Defending your ratings
By Scott Keith on January 16, 2023
Hey Scott,
These days, I've noticed on the blog that people get really upset about your ratings and Dave's ratings. Most of us understand it's just your opinion — but — I've been reading you since 1999 and many of the matches in my head are synonymous with your star-rating. And I'm often curious how you come to the conclusions you come to. I genuinely mean this in a fun, constructive way, not in a way that's going to remove any of the fun. This isn't like “explain why the joke is funny!” More just you openly discussing how you rate matches.
So, for example, I recently watched Omega/Tanahashi from WrestleKingdom 13. You gave it 6 1/2 stars. I would give it four stars. It was a good match. I thought Tanahshi was quite sloppy, and the match never got into a groove. Plus, Tanahashi works Omega's knee, but then Omega no-sells it and spams his V-triggers. Would you ever be open to having a weekly feature on your site where you defend your star ratings like this? Could be fun!
I guarantee you that you have put more thought into my star ratings than I have at any point in the past decade. I just rate stuff how I feel like in the moment and move on with my life.
