A solution to these 4 hour shows?

By Scott Keith on November 21, 2022

With Full Gear being overall very good card, there is still no reason for any ppv to go over 3-3.5 hours. Wrestlemania was the exception, but 4 hours I could do at most. Both companies are beyond guilty of it at this point. WM and WK being more than one night are a god send. I attended my first Dynamite this past september, and actually it was my first wrestling show since 1999. With Dark Elevation, Dynamite, I was done by the time Rampage got taped, and i can tell the crowd was too. Dax vs. Cesaro was the only thing keeping me in my seat till the end.

Having said that, you have noted in numerous ppvs, there are just too many matches that do not need to be on the card. I'm not sure what the reason is to stack so much, what payoffs are, why this feud needs to end on this night etc etc. And they are not the reason the majority of the crowd bought a ticket or to watch at home.

My idea, because both companies can afford to do a small scale production somewhere else, why don't they hold a smaller venue event much earlier in the day, same city, like noon, for a lot of people who couldn't get tickets to the main show. Youtube/peacock that shit. You get a fresh crowd through out, you get a lot of matches out of the way, keep it under 2 hours, they still have plenty of time to go home, sober up, and buy your ppv.

I just really miss the 2hr/5-6 match total Takeover era.

I prefer the idea of putting some of the bigger underneath matches on Rampage to actually make that show MEAN something. Wardlow and Joe did not need to be a PPV match for example.
