Stupidest Montreal Screwjob Question EVER!

How exactly was it a screwjob?
I get how it would be so In-Story, but why exactly did Bret think he was screwed in real life?
Even in '97, everyone knew wrestling was fake and, even if they didn't, in-story, having Earl DASH out of the ring, followed by HBK and having Vince and Bret argue at ringside probably would have tipped them off also. What was Bret's beef?
This would be like if Hugh Jackson said he didn't want to do a scene where Wolverine had a flatulence issue and they just edited in fart noises. And even then, that would be more humiliating to Hugh than Montreal.
Fact is, and I say this as a huge Bret mark, Bret seems to have hurt himself more by complaining about the whole issue.
If anything, the Wendi Richter screwjob should have been a bigger deal since she actually lost her job afterwards. Bret just went on to make more money.
I'm not sure I even understand the premise of your question, to be honest.
