Moxley is the top AEW babyface Punk failed to be
By Scott Keith on October 19, 2022
Ever since coming back from his drinking issues, the dude has been THE go-to top face for the company – consistently good-great matches, awesome promos, doesn't get hurt, seemingly never involved in backstage drama, and manages to be kind of scary and ruthless as a babyface instead of corny and pandering.
Then there's Punk, whose babyface character at the end was, “I love you, Chicago! No, I mean I really, REALLY love you, Chicago! I love all of you to itty bitty bits!” It was SO bad, I thought it was a clever parody of babyfaces for a heel turn. No, that was just Punk's interpretation of what a top face should be in 2022.
I always loved Punk as a heel, but Mox is better in this role versus a heel MJF for the belt.
Punk’s AEW run is already aging like sour cream in retrospect. Moxley has been killing it and deserves every penny they gave him.
