The Cobra Kai Wrap-Up Thread
By Scott Keith on September 25, 2022
OK, just finished the fifth season of Cobra Kai after taking a little break last week, so SPOILERS AHOY!
Woof! What a ride that last episode ended up being. Really felt like a full on 80s action movie, which is apropos. And of course Kreese fakes his own death again, although the “fight” at the beginning of the episode felt pretty sus to begin with.
Anyone else feel a little bad for Terry Silver, getting hauled off by the cops even though he wasn’t even the instigator of the attack ON HIS OWN HOME? No? Just checking.
Amanda LaRusso continues to be the sneaky MVP of the season, with her phone ringing “HUBBY-SAN” and introducing herself to the karate bigwigs as “karate-adjacent”.
I love that the show not only does callbacks to the original movies, but callbacks to itself, with Stingray making the save in Johnny’s converted car and Kyler finally getting beaten up by all his bullies at the end.
Also Johnny sees the photo of his unborn (presumed) son and makes the superman comeback and kicks everyone’s ass while Airborne plays? HELL YEAH.
Daniel finishes off Silver with the CRANE KICK? HELL YEAH.
Really this felt like a series finale, as it wrapped up everything and put everyone back on the same team again at the end. Yeah the giant karate tournament could still be explored next season, but really there’s no more stories they need to tell with Daniel and his kids and it might be best to just end on a high note and wrap it up. A tremendous season overall, probably my favorite after the first one.
