Kenny Omega’s Return = Brilliance
By Scott Keith on August 18, 2022
I have no idea if he's actually hurt and has come back sooner than he should've, or if he's working an angle where he's hurt and has come back sooner than he should've. What I do know is that I felt nervous for him the entire match in a good way. Instead of the typical wrestling return where we act like months out of action doesn't necessarily mean much, I was rooting for Kenny because it really felt like he was struggling to survive the match. For guys who are criticized for not selling, he sure got me to buy into the idea that he was a shell of his old healthy self.
There's this intriguing vulnerability watching him “unable” to do certain spots and wrestling with protective gear, and I think it'll just get better and better if they take their time with Kenny hitting more and more of his trademark moves with each successive match.
People in your comments section thought I was trolling before when I wrote that Dynamite was a better show for incorporating more sports entertainment elements rather than just presenting cold matches with a high workrate. I'm sure they'll be writing their usual charming fare of “idiot”, “moron”, “troll email” etc. but I'm completely serious. This return has me wondering what'll happen next and may just have salvaged an otherwise lackluster-looking trios tournament bracket.
Hopefully! I too thought that the Omega thing was brilliant on so many levels.
