why can’t wrestling get tournaments right?

By Scott Keith on August 15, 2022

Good morning Mr. Keith hope all is well.

Why is it that both the WWE and AEW can't grasp what makes tournaments a great booking tool? With the exception of the CWC(which was AWESOME!), i can't think of a tournament since that feels like the stakes are there, its a fight to the top etc etc.

The TBS tourney seemed to go on forever. The mystery/rushed brackets of the Owen Hart, All Atlantic & now Trios titles have really scratching my head on how TK can do so well with Hangman & Page storyline, yet with those like he forgot he had to come up with a tournament and just started making shit up.

I honestly don't know if WWE does tournaments anymore, as its mostly multi-mans advancing to gimmick multi-mans .

Tournaments, especially with how big the rosters are, are such an easy way to explain why people are on tv and certain matches happen. And you can make this shit last for weeks, months even, and keep the energy going. Book the winner, work backwards, why is something so simple shown to be either half-assed or convoluted, or both!?!

The Crockett Cup is still the gold standard, with real stakes (ONE MILLION DOLLARS!) and all the top teams and people actually fighting to be a part of it.

The Trios tournament was really hurt by injuries and circumstance, but yeah, the Owen Hart tournament had little excuse for being so weak, and really do they even talk about it anymore? It all led to nothing, it was just a way for Britt and Adam to have their moment together.
