Strongest/Weakest Criticisms of Today’s Wrestling **By the Boys**
By Scott Keith on June 1, 2022
Which, if any, of these common criticisms by people in the actual business do you think have merit?
1. Wrestlers don't sell anything anymore, and matches feel unrealistic and unengaging as a result. – Bret Hart, Paul London, Stevie Richards, maybe others
2. Companies like AEW are booking for the house too much and just appealing to the perceived internet wrestling community by emphasizing workrate instead of appealing to a broader, more casual audience with story drama. – Vince Russo and Eric Bischoff actually agreeing on something
3. Too many of today's wrestlers aren't believably tough, do too many silly gimmick matches/characters, and generally don't protect the business sufficiently. – Jim Cornette, Undertaker
Dirty as it makes me feel, I agree with Cornette here. AEW way overdoes the gimmick matches. Sometimes less is way more.
