Curt Hennig WCW Confusion

Good afternoon Mr. keith Hope all is well. Please tell me theres something more than “Because WCW”, because i don't understand the booking of this timeline when Curt Henning arrives in WCW in 97:
1. Debuts walking down the aisle at the end of Nitro (coupling it with ravens debut as well), “Whose side is he on?!?”
2. Suprise partner for DDP at BATB97 (even though he already surpised us at his debut), turns on Page, ok so he's nwo?
3. I can't remember what happened that lead to Arn offering him his spot, but hey he's a horsemen now. So he's not nwo?
4. Turns on Flair & WCW at fall brawl, So he is nwo!
The heat from turning on Flair could have been achieved without over-complicating it.
You could say that about a lot of nWo related stuff in 1997.
