I don't think it can be argued AEW put on a solid PPV last night. But def far greatest ever which you had people throwing out all over the place, and in a year from now will probably be remembered mostly for Lucha match and the debuts at the end. 4 debuts also seemed excessive, Cole especially could of been used for a rating pop down the road and to make it stand out more. But what I am most shocked about is how people are acting like this is the biggest competition WWE has faced since WCW. I would argue TNA in 2010 was just as big or bigger.
People really underestimate the real problem Vince had to deal with. They had a ton of ex WWE guys still close to their prime jump ship like Angle, RVD, and Jeff Hardy. Plus huge mainstream names like Hogan, Sting, Flair, Foley, Nash, and Hall signed. Then great young stars like Joe, AJ, Roode, and Daniels. Obviously they were idiots by going directly against Raw but they had Vince so shook he had to counter that first week with having Bret Hart come back from the first time since the screwjob. That shows the level of fear he had. And TNA did 2.2 million against them with getting up to 3 million during the Hogan segment.
What makes people think it's gonna go different this time? History is already repeating itself. TNA was universally praised by IWC back then. They had also a super mark owner spending their dad's money. AJ was the internet darling like Darby was. They started with great young talent and ended up bloated with ex WWE guys. You already got original guys doing jobs like Darby and MJF losing another big blowout match. And of course their biggest downfall is they tried to take the fight right to WWE rather than just building organically.
I hope it works because competition makes WWE better. It's already working. I love NXT but they got away from the point of trying to make superstars like back in the day with OVW, FCW, and early NXT. Now Vince is getting back to basics and they have a hell of young class to work with that has tons of amateur wrestling pedigree with Gable Stevenson as the crown jewel. You can say alot of bad about Vince but at least he is finally realizing they need to change things up to make new stars.
Your premise about TNA is hilariously bad faith on every level but I appreciate the effort this morning.
