Howdy Blog O’Doomers!

The day started out well enough as I enjoyed the boat parade for the 2021 Stanley Cup Champion Tampa Bay Lightning. But I came home to hear the sad news that the most feared bad guy around when I started watching WWF, “Mr. Wonderful” Paul Orndorff had passed away at the age of 71. We recently got news that his health was failing and it’s always tough to see the people that were part of my fandom as a child leaving us. The heel team in the first Wrestlemania are no longer with us.

Even though Piper was the more bombastic and charismatic of the team, Orndorff was the guy you thought could actually beat Hogan. That’s probably why they drew so much money in 1986. Orndorff had the look, he had the credibility and his piledriver was considered the ultimate bad guy finisher. But looking back, Orndorff cracked me the hell up. He was both a narcissist and desperately in need of someone to build his confidence. He was great in some of the skits he did. The pre-Wrestlemania one where he and Piper go to a voodoo woman and he’s just not wearing a shirt in the whole thing. I couldn’t stop laughing at how ridiculous it was.

I think this RAW is taped, so I’m not sure what they will put together for Orndorff, but I expect them to do something. The matches are scheduled to be: Bobby Lashley vs. Xavier Woods, Sheamus vs. Humberto and a few others.
