Hogans long title reign/ Jyd potential.

By Scott Keith on July 4, 2021

Hey Scott-

You may have answered this before so please forgive me if so

During Hogan’s first reign. Do you think there was any organic spots for him to lose the belt and win it back. Or was holding it for 4 years straight was better in solidifying the belt?

Piper winning it before WM2 and him winning it back comes to mind. And Orndorff winning it at some point just because of the Money that was being made.

Bonus question. I stumbled upon JYD in mid south. And holy shit. Was he so over and just fricken put together. How would have in prime JYD would have been different?

Thanks

Nah, there was no need or reason for Hogan to drop the belt at any point in the 80s. Piper didn't need it and wouldn't have been dependable in Vince's eyes anyway. Orndorff was making more money than he had ever seen in his lifetime by taking the legdrop night after night and switching the belt wouldn't have produced any more sellouts anyway. By the 90s you could absolutely argue that, for example, Flair should have got the belt or something like that, but you can't argue with Hogan's success in the 80s.

As for JYD, do you mean how would he have been different in the WWF if he was in his prime? Depends if he's still doing drugs in this alternate timeline I guess. I don't think he's over enough with a national audience to be World champion or anything if that's what you're asking. Hogan had a certain charisma that transcended a lot of barriers, and JYD didn't have that.
