The Warrior Biography

OK, so I watched the Warrior Biography special this morning and reviewed it for Inside the Ropes magazine, but here’s some abbreviated general thoughts in advance of watching the counterpoint of Dark Side of the Ring tonight.

Overall, much more fair than previous versions, which includes the original hatchet-job doc and the “Warrior is a saint” WWE redoes that followed. They covered a lot of the bad stuff, and the good stuff, and actually had a selection of people telling both sides of the story, which was good.

That being said, they essentially “yada yada-d” everything from Warrior’s firing in 1992 to his speaking tour in 2005, summing up the dumpster fire of 1996 with “he came back, and got fired for missing house shows” and then literally not even mentioning WCW. I mean, if you’re legitimately trying to tell a story with this thing, that’s a big chunk to miss.

Although they didn’t outright lie very much that I could tell, leave it to Bruce Prichard to get the biggest whopper with the story that Warrior was fired for failing drug tests in 1992 (which he wasn’t) and that he was caught with HGH (which there is no test for). I mean, they have SO MUCH other material to make Warrior look awful, why make stuff up?

Also, trying to spin the end of his life as “He totally learned a lesson from being shamed in 2005 and became a better person” is also kind of bullshit, and they literally didn’t even mention the video game deal as the main motivating factor in his return.

Regardless, it’s a pretty respectful and enjoyable 2 hours that had some necessary alterations to the narrative to gain WWE approval, and besides, we have Dark Side tonight to tell the other side of the story anyway, and I’m PUMPED for it.
