Blackheart Lestat, etc.

I've been reading through the Observer Flashback archives, which have been great fun, and one of my favorite recurring
points is the many iterations of Dave Heath's vampire gimmick. Which leads to a question for the mailbag: when he finally
debuted with the WWF, why did they do a deal with White Wolf Publishing to call him “Gangrel” instead of coming up with
whatever goofy vampire name of their own? It just seems so out of character for a company that was normally fetishistic
about owning everyone's gimmicks.
Good question. I suspect that they put everything together not knowing about the White Wolf trademarks and then had to do a deal on the back end when they found out about them.
