1-2-3 Kid & Aldo Montoya vs. Heavenly Bodies w/ Jim Cornette
Vince wonders how Kid & Montoya will fare against an established team. Prichard and Kid start off and end up in a stalemate. Kid then dropkicks Prichard after a reversal sequence and works the arm for a bit. Montoya tags in and goes to the arm but Prichard cuts him off iwth a knee smash. Montoya trips up Del Ray and they trade hammerlocks until Del Ray uses a cheap shot in the corner. Montoya comes back with a crossbody for a two count as Vince says the Tag Team Title Tournament brackets will soon be released. Kid tags back in and Del Ray gets hit with a double dropkick. Kid now works the leg of Del Ray as the announcers talk about Montoya turning down DiBiase’s offer. Del Ray now beats on Kid to escape before tagging out but Kid takes down Prichard and tags Montoya. We see Montoya hit both members of the Heavenly Bodies with inverted atomic drops but Del Ray trips him up and that allows Prichard to hit a bulldog. We go to break with The Bodies working over Montoya. Del Ray knocks Kid off of the apron then soon after that Prichard hits a sit-out powerbomb for two. Prichard now works a front face lock as Montoya tries to inch towards Kid for the tag. Del Ray distracts the ref so he misses the tag then The Bodies go back to beating down Montoya. Pettengill suggests the WWF use instant replay as Montoya still manages to stay alive. Montoya avoids an elbow drop from Prichard then makes the tag as Kid runs wild. The match breaks down then Kid goes up top to finish off Prichard with the flying leg drop but Cornette whacks him with his tennis racket then Prichard covers for the win. However, another official runs out to tell the ref what happened then we hear the ring announcer tell us the match will continue due to Cornette’s interference. Cornette & The Bodies are beside themselves then Montoya dropkicks Prichard and Kid uses a school boy for the win (7:17 shown) ***1/4.
Thoughts: Good match that was all action. I liked the finish too with the heels getting their comeuppance even after being caught cheating. The Kid & Montoya pairing got some push on commentary and with the Tag Team Title Tournament coming up you’d figure they would be part of the bracket. However, only one of those guys made it into the tourney.
We see a recap of the 10th Annual American Sportcasters Association dinner with greats like Yogi Berra, Tommy LaSorda, Keith Jackson, and Dick Enberg. Plus, we see Diesel as he is classing up the joint in a sleeveless tuxedo top. And we see Diesel standing near Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Vince says that Kareem is 7’4, Kareem’s playing height was 7’2, and Diesel appeatrs about 4-5 inches shorter. Diesel really looked out of place here.
Doink defeats Mike Khoury from the 12/4 edition of “Wrestling Challenge.”
Todd Pettengill voices over an ad for the WWF Holiday Wish Tour.
We get a hype video for tomorrow’s Jeff Jarrett vs. British Bulldog match on RAW.
The hosts narrate a still video package of the Bret Hart vs. Bob Backlund match at Survivor Series. The Coliseum Home Video release of the PPV will become available on December 14th. After that we get the clip of Diesel defeating Backlund for the title three days later at Madison Square Garden then hear the promos from both Backlund and Diesel we already heard weekend.
JIm Neidhart defeats Curtis Harrison from the 12/4 edition of “Wrestling Challenge.”
We get an add hyping the 100th episode of “WWF Mania.”
Smoking Gunns defeat Chris Hamrick & Dave DeMagglio from the 12/4 edition of “Wrestling Challenge.”
Bam Bam Bigelow defeats Ben Jordan from the 12/4 edition of “Wrestling Challenge.”
An ad for the WWF RAW video game airs.
The hosts now plug “Scott & Todd’s Scamarama” album which is the album from Pettengill and his DJ co-host, Scott Shannon, from 95.5 WPLJ in New York. It was a collection of their prank calls.
Lex Luger defeats Barry Hardy from the 12/4 edition of “Wrestling Challenge.” We also learn that Jerry Lawler and Doink & Dink will be on the 100th edition of WWF Mania.
The show closes with Minn flexing at the announcers table to show us how he went to the gym.
Final Thoughts: The featured match was good and they had a high profile featured match next week that was oddly enough not mentioned here. We also learned of the 100th episode of “Mania” would air this weekend and next weekend would also feature someone’s final appearance.
