WWF Wrestling Challenge – November 20th, 1994

By Brian Bayless on February 28, 2020

November 20, 1994

From the Knickerbocker Arena in Albany, NY

Your hosts are Gorilla Monsoon and Ted DiBiase

We get a video package on the Bret Hart/Bob Backlund confrontation from “Monday Night RAW.”

Bob Backlund w/ Owen Hart vs. Tony DeVito

The announcers talk about Backlund vs. Bret at Survivor Series with DiBiase pointing out how George Foreman became champion at age 44 with Gorilla calling Bret the best champion ever. Match starts off on the match with Backlund winning that battle. Owen looks into the camera to tell us that Backlund is so much better than Bret as Backlund stays in control then puts DeVito in the crossface chicken wing for the win (3:05).

Thoughts: They really have built up Backlund well as a challenger with the crossface chicken wing portrayed as the most vicious hold in the company and using George Foreman winning the title at his age as an example how Backlund can do the same. Owen has been great as Backlund’s cornerman too.

We get a video package on the Doink/Jerry Lawler feud. We then hear from both Survivor Series teams.

Bob “Spark Plugg” Holly vs. Phil Apollo

Holly takes Apollo over with a hip toss as the announcers go over a house show card in Poughkeepsie, NY. Holly hits a flurry of offense as DiBiase calls out Chuck Norris for being “soft.” Holly sends Apollo into the corner and heads up top but Apollo cuts him off. Apollo tosses Holly off of the top rope but ducks his head and Holly uses a small package for the win (2:30). The announcers talk more about Chuck Norris.

Thoughts: Just a backdrop for the announcers to talk about Chuck Norris being at Survivor Series.

Charlie Minn with another terrible performance at the Live Event News desk.

Diesel vs. Aaron Ferguson

Gorilla teases DiBiase over wasting money on Nikolai Volkoff and Bam Bam Bigelow instead of signing Diesel. DiBiase then says maybe he might eventually by Diesel & Shawn Michaels as Diesel beats on Ferguson in the corner. DiBiase jokes about buying off Republican senators as Diesel beats down Ferguson until he puts him away with the Jackknife (2:43).

Thoughts: The past month or so you never had the face announcers say anything bad about Diesel’s character. They put him over strong. Even Gorilla’s comment was something always reserved for a face and when you think of the talk about Diesel & Shawn splitting it easy to see who is going to be the face when that happens.

IRS vignette airs.

Undertaker vs. Neidhart from “Superstars” airs.

Tatanka w/ Ted DiBiase vs. Tim McNeany

Tatanka chops away as Gorilla hypes the Survivor Series. Tatanka stomps away then uses a gutwrench as Gorilla plugs Smoking Gunns vs. Heavenly Bodies for “Sunday Night Slam.” Tatanka chokes out McNeany in the corner as Gorilla tells us how Lex Luger loves Thanks giving while Tatanka hates it due to being an example of immigrants stealing from his ancestors. McNeany gets dumped outside then they go back in where McNeany surprises Tatanka with a few nearfalls but gets beaten down then put away with the End of the Trail (4:32). Tatanka stomps McNeany after the match and hits another End of the Trail

Thoughts: An awfully long squash match that mostly saw the announcers talk about the Tatanka/Luger feud. They also plugged ‘Sunday Night Slam” show.

Survivor Series Report airs.

British Bulldog & 1-2-3 Kid vs. Roy Raymond & The Executioner

Scott hammers on Kid as Gorilla says Kid is woozy due to being put in Backlund’s crossface chicken wing on RAW. Kid lands several kicks in the corner then Bulldog tags and overpowers The Executioner. Bulldog then hits a running powerslam and press slams Kid on top for the win (1:57).

Thoughts: Just an example of two Survivor Series teammates pairing up to show unity. However, the Teamsters vs. Bad Guys matchup as not been getting all that much attention.

We get last minute Survivor Series hype.

Final Thoughts: Your generic PPV hype edition of Challenge. This show lacked exclusive segments or any excitement for that matter. Its really a show not worth watching.
