WWF Superstars – October 8th, 1994

By Brian Bayless on February 8, 2020

October 8, 1994

From the in Green Bay, WI

Your hosts are Vince McMahon and Jerry “The King” Lawler

This week we have Bam Bam Bigelow vs. Duke “The Dumpster” Droese. Plus, Bob Backlund as guest on the “Heartbreak Hotel.” Also in action are British Bulldog and the return of King Kong Bundy.

Bam Bam Bigelow w/ Ted DiBiase vs. Duke “The Dumpster” Droese

Droese ducks an attack in the corner then fires away. He catches Bigelow with a boot to the face then drops him with a clothesline. Droese lands more punches before working the arm. Bigelow is able to dump Droese outside then knees him off of the apron. Bigelow heads out and rams Droese’s head into the ring apron as Vince plugs Bigelow’s match on RAW against Lex Luger. Back inside, Bigelow uses a few headbutts and covers for two. Bigelow chokes out Droese on the ropes as Vince mentions that Adam Bomb is hot on Bigelow’s trail. Bigelow hits a suplex for two then applies a chin lock. Bigelow taunts the crowd then asks DiBiase if he wants him to take out the garbage. Bigelow runs over Droese a few times but walks into a powerslam as Droese gets two. Droese comes back with a pair of clotheslines then uses a corkscrew elbow drop but breaks his cover like a moron to yell at DiBiase, who is up on the apron. Droese avoids a sneak attack by Bigelow but misses a charge in the corner then Bigelow rolls up Droese and grabs his pants for leverage and gets the win (4:50) *.

Thoughts: Two guys going through the motions delivered an uninspired match the crowd did not care about. Since Droese’s feud with Lawler abruptly ended so the latter could go right into a feud with Doink, he’s been left with nothing to do and is now putting people over on TV.

Another Live Event News Segment for the Hart Attack Tour.

We see British Bulldog warm up backstage getting ready for his match.

Todd Pettengill narrates clips from the Bulldog vs. Jim Neidhart match on RAW. We saw Bret Hart come ringside but even the sides as Owen Hart was interfering. We also saw Bob Backlund come out and push Bret then say something to him before leaving. Its clear that the Bret/Backlund feud is not over and it will even clearer by the end of the show.

British Bulldog vs. Ben Jordan

Bulldog overpowers Jordan to start. He then hits a few different suplex variations and follows with a clothesline as Lawler talks about how much he hates dogs. Bulldog then uses forearm smashes before applying a chin lock. Jordan escapes and lands a few shots but Bulldog clotheslines him in the corner then uses a running powerslam for the win (2:06).

Thoughts: A showcase for Bulldog as he is getting a push as part of the Hart Family feud.

We get a New Generation confessional booth ad with Razor Ramon telling us how he slammed a man to the ground for knocking a toothpick out of his mouth. The priest then said “who do you think you are, Razor Ramon?” The ad ends with the priest asking for all sorts of autographs.

Heartbreak Hotel with guest Bob Backlund. Shawn tries to ask a question but Backlund cuts him off and demands to be addressed as “Mr. Backlund” and says he resents the term “former” champion. Shawn says the WWF recognizes Bret Hart as the World Champion then Backlund asks how do you lose or gain a championship. Shawn says by pinfall or submission and Backlund said he has been waiting for ten years. Shawn then says “Big Daddy Cool” and himself would like to party with Backlund but then Backlund says the two are not in his league and would not want to associate with them. Backlund then calls out Bret Hart, saying Bret is “quagmired in a sea of hypocrisy” and then says he is the champion but Bret has the belt. Backlund then says if you play the game right you’ll win but if you do like the crowd then you’ve already lost. Backlund now screams how he is worried about us and tells Bret he has two ways to do this and that’s either come out and give him the title or fight in the middle of the ring. Backlund then storms out as Shawn notes how he is crazy. Another excellent interview by Backlund, who is just killing it as the clean-cut hero turned crazed lunatic who is now against the fans.

Dawn Beamert is the special guest ring announcer. She’s probably about 14 years old and Lawler makes fun of her for being ugly as Vince is yelling at him to stop.

Jeff Jarrett vs. Billy Joe Eaton

The announcers talk about Jarrett’s album as Lawler says you cannot get it in stores because of how fast they sell out. Before the match, Jarrett says he is the world’s greatest singer, entertainer, and wrestler. Jarrett immediately attacks Eaton to start. Jarrett ducks a crossbody and brags then Eaton comes back with a sunset flip for two. Jarrett goes back on the attack but misses an elbow smash in the corner. Jarrett then cuts Eaton off on the top rope and hits a superplex then Jarrett puts on the figure-four and gets the win (2:23).

Thoughts: With the announcers keep talking about Jarrett’s album it seems like an angle about this is coming.

The Undertaker & Paul Bearer run down Yokozuna to hype their casket matches around the house show circuit.

The ad about the WWF never going on strike airs.

The Headshrinkers w/ Capt. Lou Albano & Afa vs. Barry Horowitz & Ron Higgins

Vince notes how Albano said Samu was sick but is now back then says its a ploy to keep Shawn Michaels & Diesel off guard as they might not know which of the three Headshrinkers they will face. The Headshrinkers work over Higgins to start. Higgins quickly tags out then Lawler says its not fair that we do not know which two of the Headshrinkers will wrestle. Fatu gets hit with several European uppercuts but they do not have any effect. Fatu heads up top but Albano gets him down for some reason then talks to his team. Horowitz sneaks up from behind with a double noggin-knocker but that fails and he tags out. The Headshrinkers drop Higgins with a double headbutt then Fatu uses a flying splash for the win (2:42).

Thoughts: They are gearing up for The Headshrinkers to get a title match. However, the real story was on commentary. Vince talked about how there are three Headshrinkers and by listening you would think they were going to do “Freebird Rules” with the team. But, Vince also said he was shocked to see Samu here and in a way where he did not expect him to appear again so it did appear the company genuinely did not know whether or not Samu would return. And this is probably why in the newsletters it was reported at first that three Headshrinkers would be going forward.

Vince tells us that King Kong Bundy is up next while Lawler says there will be a surprise when Bundy comes out.

We get an ad for the Action Zone’s debut.

Back to the announcers as Vince tells us that next week we will have a special interview with Arnold Skaaland, the man who threw in the towel on Backlund in 1983.

King Kong Bundy w/ Ted DiBiase vs. Mitch Bishop

And DiBiase now surprises us by being Bundy’s manager. Bundy backs Bishop into the corner then hits a chop. Bundy uses some punches and kicks as the announcers marvel over his size. Bundy runs over Bishop and uses a knee drop before The Avalance gets the win with a five count (1:24).

Thoughts: Just a horrible performance by Bundy. He looked old and slow but with DiBiase as his manager the company did have plans to push him strong out of the gate.

We come back from commercial as Bundy & DiBiase look at the finish of the match on the video wall and laugh as Lawler says this is a warning to everyone in the locker room.

Another Live Event News segment on the Hart Attack Tour.

We get a clip of George “The Animal” Steele from the film “Ed Wood.”

Back to the announcers then we see Doink on the video wall. Doink laughs and wants Lawler to face him in a match right now. Doink then says he can play jokes too and we see Lawler get up. Lawler takes off his robe and yells at Doink but we then see Dink with a pie that he places on Lawler’s seat. Doink then tells Lawler to sit down and take it easy and have a good time. Lawler then tells us that Doink is scared and sits down right on the pie. Doink laughs as Lawler is pissed. Doink & Dink get revenge as the company is making this feud a key part of TV.

Final Thoughts: The Backlund stuff continues to be the best part of TV. The Hart Family feud is still pushed strong but even with the addition of Bulldog it is starting to run out of steam. The Bundy debut was a complete dud and the rest of the characters and angles are not connecting.
