nWo Sting

What was supposed to be the point of nWo Sting once it was revealed the real Sting never turned on WCW? Was nWo Sting and Sting supposed to face off against each other at a PPV, but they nixed it because nobody cared? Or is the answer once again, "Because WCW"?

nWo Sting actually did pretty well in Japan as a part of the nWo faction there, so this was one case where they were actually smart to keep him around after the initial angle ran its course.
