Ciampa injury revisited
By Scott Keith on November 11, 2019
Real life injury-impact aside, would we now have to say that the sudden nature of ciampa’s neck injury actually benefited his career while hurting Gargano’s? It prevented ciampa from ever dropping the title. It helped him avoid overexposure. It turned him face naturally. And it set him up for a renewed mega push upon his return. Gargano, on the other hand, “won” the feud, but seemingly floundered as without getting the final big win; ended up a bit over exposed by his series with Cole, and now – even when paired with Balor – seems a step down from the top level of faces (or at least in Ciampa’s shadow).
You know what it is, though? This is how things USED to be. Guys would get hot and then start to cool off after some time at the top, so they'd change promotions and show up somewhere completely different, reheated again. Gargano has been stuck in NXT with nowhere to go for years now and yeah, he's just a victim of the system. So yes, there's absolutely something to it. Although I think Ciampa has punched his last bump card with that neck injury and probably doesn't have long left in this run.
