Buyers For WCW?

By Scott Keith on November 5, 2019

Did WCW really have no other interested suitors other than Fusient Media when they first announced they were for sale in early 2001?

They actually first announced they were for sale in 2000 and WWE had right of first refusal, but USA blocked the sale because they didn't want their property airing on a rival network. So Fusient and a few others bid for it, but most of the potential suitors fell apart after some basic due diligence because of the financial sinkhole that WCW had turned into. Really, by 2001 the company had no value except for the TV slot, and once that was cancelled, WWE has the only one interested in buying up the tape library and remaining assets. Rumor was that Jerry Jarrett wanted in originally, but nothing ever happened.
