So, people DO like wrestling…?
By Scott Keith on November 3, 2019
Scott,
Smackdown on Fox drew 2.543 million viewers during the NXT invasion, up from 2.418 the previous week.
I’m always hearing from some people that “nobody wants to see matches just for match’s sake, even if they’re good” with regard to NXT and AEW. But this weeks SD was full of them: Ciampa v Miz had no backstory or backstage skits, and the main event was an amazing match with no soap drama around it. I’d think the ratings increase would show that a significant number of people DO like wrestling matches.
So what’s the next thing that’ll be used to dog the Wednesday night shows?
Cheers as always!
I think the Smackdown rating was more that the show will be sitting around that level regularly no matter what's on, but honestly it's too soon for any of the shows, Wednesday or otherwise, to be basing any kind of "this is what people want out of the show" stuff on the ratings. It's just been influenced by too many outside things like sports and new channels and stuff so far.
