Borrowing From the Past
By Scott Keith on October 27, 2019
Hey Scott–
AEW is damn entertaining, but something feels familiar…
Chris Jericho is a charismatic heel champion who, no matter how nefarious his deeds, still gets some cheers. He surrounds himself with talented lackeys who protect him from a Rhodes, who has allies of his own, and also happens to be in a key management position.
… is Cody just doing Jim Crockett 1986 all over again? Not that I'm complaining (again, super-fun show every single week) but can we expect Cody to hold the AEW belt for a week before Tony Khan overturns the decision? Is "Battle Activities: The Match After the Match" on the horizon?
You could pick worse playbooks to take from, for sure…
Crockett made a shitload of money in 1986, so there's no shame in stealing from him.
