How to tell the difference?

By Scott Keith on October 4, 2019

Hey Scott,
I peeked in on the end of AEW and one thing that stood out was that it did not really stand out. There is no big difference between the AEW set up from Impact, NXT Takeover or Raw. This seemed like a big miss for AEW to set itself visually apart.

Say what you will about Lucha Underground but I really liked that they dug into the conceit that this was a planned story line with intricate vignettes and an arena set up for their type of wrestling.

What do you think is the sweet spot for a promotion to look prime time ready without coming off cartoonish or bush league?

I thought it was a huge positive that it looked as good as RAW from a production standpoint. Impact traditionally looks bush league by comparison most times because they don't know how to shoot a smaller arena and make it look like a big one, for example. Plus wrestling fans are creatures of habit and AEW looks like a familiar visual format that screams "WRESTLING SHOW!" Yeah, they can change it up later with wacky stuff like the Jericho cruise show and such, but I thought it was a great visual look to start.
