AEW Mid-Card
By Scott Keith on September 28, 2019
Hey Scott–
At lot of the chatter on the Blog has had to do with the guys signed by AEW and whether or not their gimmicks smack of "indie wrestling".
Setting aside AEW's top tier (Jericho, Cody, Omega, etc.) who do you think has the best chance to connect with a wider audience, and who do you think is most likely to flounder?
For my money, Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus have the potential to be amazing. Orange Cassidy is so goofy he could work spectacularly. Private Party is great, The Best Friends are solid, and in 2019 you couldn't ask for a better mid-card core than SCU (I wouldn't consider them tippy-top AEW guys.)
On the other end of the spectrum, The Dark Order screams "high school gym show" to me, and I never need to see the Allin/Havoc/Janela trifecta staple anything to anything ever again.
What do you think?
I 100% agree with your blazing hot takes there. Jurassic Express is gonna become breakout stars and they've got a good core of tag teams to work with, outside of the Dark Oreos. I know people are like "They were good in Chikara!" but lots of stupid shit looks good in Chikara and Uno looks like an indy goof. I just can't buy into them.
