By Brian Bayless on September 24, 2019
May 2, 1994
From the Green Mountain State Arena in Morrisville, VT
Your hosts are Vince McMahon and “Macho Man” Randy Savage
The show starts with a replay of last week when Randy Savage saved Capt. Lou Albano from Johnny Polo. Savage then held Polo so Albano could hit him as those two celebrated to end the show. This is to hype up tonight’s Tag Team Title match.
WWF Tag Team Title Match: The Quebecers (c) w/ Johnny Polo vs. The Headshrinkers w/ Afa & Capt. Lou Albano
Vince talks about Albano managing the Tag Team champions 19 times including the Wild Samoans, Moondogs, and the Yukon Lumberjacks. Pierre and Fatu start it off with Fatu getting the best of that matchup. Jacques and Samu are in now with Samu getting a nearfall the the Quebecers have some miscommunication and the Headshrinkers clear the ring. The Quebecers regroup on the outside then head up the aisle with Polo as Vince says they will lose the match but not the titles then screams about this being a ripoff. Albano is pissed as he heads up the aisle then Howard Finkel tells us that if the Quebecers do not enter the ring after a ten count not only will they lose the match but they will also lose the titles. The Quebecers run out and just beat the count then we go to commercial. The match returns with The Headshrinkers working the arm of Pierre. Jacques knees Fatu from the apron then Pierre turns Jacques inside-out with a clothesline. Pierre distracts the ref so Jacques can send Fatu into the steps as Savage jokes we now need new steps because these are cracked. The Quebecers beat on Fatu as the crowd starts USA, which Savage says is for American Samoa. The Quebecers hit a few double-team moves then we go to break. We return now with Pierre charging at Fatu but getting sent over the top rope with a back drop. Fatu finally tags out as Samu runs wild on both Quebecers. Samu now gets his neck caught in the ropes then finally escapes as he is now down on the mat. Jacques hits a piledriver then the Quebecers set up for the assisted senton but Samu was able to move out of the way. Polo gets up on the apron but Albano drags him off then holds him up as Afa takes Polo down. Jacques tags into the match now as does Fatu but the referee did not see Fatu tag in and he is ordered back onto the apron. Pierre holds up Samu for Jacques but accidentally gets decked by his partner. Jacques then yells at Pierre but Pierre punches him out. The Headshrinkers now work over Jacques and hit a double facebuster and send Pierre off of the apron then Fatu heads up top for the splash and the win as they are the new Tag Team Champions (12:55 shown) **3/4.
Thoughts: The in-ring action was maybe average at best but it had a strong storyline and a hot crowd to enhance everything. The Quebecers were unable to use their tactics of doing whatever it takes to remain champions and at the end could not overcome the more powerful team who they were scared of facing. Albano’s facial expression to the win was something else. Overall, a satisfying payoff to a storyline and what appears to be the official face turn of The Headshrinkers.
King of the Ring Report with Todd Pettengill. After congratulating The Headshrinkers for becoming the new Tag Team Champions then we learn that next week on RAW, Razor Ramon vs. Kwang will take place as a King of the Ring Tournament qualifying match. Pettengill also says that former Baltimore Colt Art Donovan will be at the King of the Ring as a special guest analyst. And he certainly was special on that night.
Vince is ringside with Chief Jay Strongbow, who assures us that Tatanka is on the warpath.
Tatanka vs. Derek Domino
Domino tries a sneak attack but Tatanka beats him down in the corner. Tatanka then hits a back suplex as Strongbow sits next to Savage with his arms crossed. Domino chops Tatanka but gets chopped harder then Vince talks about Tatanka vs. IRS on the WrestleMania Revenge tour. IRS calls in now with Vince wanting a legitimate explanation for the headdress getting destroyed. IRS says Tatanka never paid his gift tax and cannot wait to face Tatanka in the ring. Back to the match with Tatanka staying in control as Vince says that Diesel will be guest on the “King’s Court.” Tatanka hits a suplex and continues to beat on Domino before applying an armbar. The announcers talk about the King of the Ring as Domino fights back and even hits a flying clothesline for a two count but Tatanka fires up and runs wild until the Renegade Drop gets the win (5:19). After the match, Tatanka goes out to Strongbow.
Thoughts: Long squash match that saw Domino get in a fair amount of offense. For a guy on the warpath all he did was look a bit more aggressive at times in the match. Would have been more effective if he destroyed him in 90 seconds but for whatever reason they decided to stretch out this match.
Pettengill runs down the dates of the WrestleMania Revenge tour.
King’s Court with guest Diesel. Before bringing out his guests, Lawler gets in some digs at Roddy Piper and calls him a has-been just like Razor Ramon. Diesel wants to be called “Big Daddy Cool” then Lawler asks him about Shawn Michaels not being here due to sacrificing his body in order to help him from hitting the exposed steel in the corner. Diesel says Shawn is a great man who sacrificed himself for a friend then says they are the best duo since Batman & Robin. Lawler now asks Diesel about Razor as Diesel said Razor is a “bad guy” but not bad enough. Lawler wants to know what is next as Diesel said while the Intercontinental Title is nice, the World Heavyweight Title is better and wants to go after that as Lawler tells Diesel Bret Hart is a coward. Diesel then tells Bret he wants his belt. So they seem to be setting up for Diesel to challenge Bret for the World Title while Bret vs. Owen is being hyped as the title feud for the WrestleMania Revenge tour. That is interesting and a situation worth monitoring.
We now see a montage of people who claimed to see the Undertaker. They were people in fire stations, repair shops, jewelry stores, and even a kindergarten class.
Yokozuna w/ Mr. Fuji & Jim Cornette vs. Scott Taylor & Mike Davis
Vince says that Yokozuna weighs 568 lbs after saying that Yokozuna was responsible for putting Undertaker out of action. Yokozuna hits a double clothesline then plants Taylor with an enziguiri. Vince says that Yokozuna could be the next King of the Ring as Yokozuna is resting on one knee. Yokozuna then tosses Taylor over the top rope and slaps Davis around as the announcers once again talk about the King of the Ring. Yokozuna now beats on Taylor as Vince says there will be a Hall of Fame presentation on June 9th. Yokozuna stays in control then stacks both men on top of each other and hits the Bonzai Drop for the win (4:21). After the match, Yokozuna goes back up top and hits Davis with another Bonzai Drop as Cornette is enjoying the destruction. Yokozuna then hits Taylor with a Bonzai Drop then Earthquake runs out to stare down Yokozuna.
Thoughts: Once again, Yokozuna’s cardiovascular system is shot and he needs frequent rest even in a squash match. However, after a few weeks of the announcers comparing the two we actually get a Earthquake/Yokozuna confrontation.
We then see Earthquake with the hosts. Earthquake says he is sick of people asking when he is going to face Yokozuna. So, he has decided to challenge Yokozuna to a match. And this match will show everyone who is the biggest and best man in the WWF. Vince says Yokozuna will give an answer next week then plugs the KotR Qualifying match also scheduled for next week.
Final Thoughts: We had the Tag Team Titles switch hands after a month or so long storyline with Albano. Also, they set up for next week well with a KotR Qualifier and Yokozuna responding to Earthquake’s challenge. Plus, we saw Diesel, by himself, go ahead and put out a challenge to Bret Hart for the World Title making this all a rock solid edition of RAW.
