WWF Monday Night RAW – April 11th, 1994
By Brian Bayless on September 17, 2019
April 11, 1994
From the Utica Memorial Auditorium in Utica, NY
Your hosts are Vince McMahon and “Macho Man” Randy Savage
The show starts with The Bushwhackers, Men on a Mission, and the Smoking Gunns as to why we should vote for them as the title challengers for The Quebecers tonight.
Now we see the hosts run down the show as besides the Tag Team Title match we will also have Diesel
Diesel w/ Shawn Michaels vs. Virgil
Virgil gets a ring entrance here, even coming out after Diesel. The announcers put over the arena being jam-packed with an electric atmosphere. Match starts with Diesel beating down Virgil. Diesel misses a charge in the corner then Virgil starts working the arm. Diesel catches Virgil with a side slam as Savage says Diesel has more than size that makes him special. Diesel elbows Virgil in the corner with Shawn’s encouragement then Diesel taunts the crowd after dropping Virgil with a clothesline. Diesel now works a bearhug for a bit until he rams Virgil into the corner. Diesel hammers away with Shawn taunting Virgil as Vince says that Lex Luger will be here tonight as the guest on the “King’s Court.” Diesel works another bearhug as Savage wonders if this is a statement being made to Razor Ramon. Virgil escapes after a bell clap then runs wild and even drops Diesel with a clothesline that gets a two count. Diesel then blocks a reverse rollup attempt and drops Virgil with a big boot before the Jackknife gets the win (5:24) *. The announcers put over Diesel for being awesome as we get a slo-mo replay of the Jackknife.
Thoughts: The whole purpose of this match was to put over Diesel as someone primed to become a huge star. They practically all but said he has the “it” factor here although the match itself was fine he did not do much in the ring other than his finisher that screamed awesome. Regardless, he clearly has the company endorsement based off of the commentary as his Intercontinental Title match against Razor Ramon appears to happening quite soon.
The “WWF Unbelievable” ad with the balding guy blowing off his hot girlfriend to watch RAW airs.
We now see the announcers talk about the Tag Team Title match for tonight. The Voteline number flashes on the screen. For the record, the results were never announced on “All-American Wrestling” as promised on this past weekend’s syndicated shows. I guess they needed another day of this line to milk some more money from the fans.
King’s Court with guest Lex Luger is up now. Lawler gets carried out on his throne and one of the people carrying him would go on to become D’Lo Brown. And Lawler ends up getting tipped over as Savage laughs at Lawler for being a moron. Savage also said this segment has nothing on the “Piper’s Pit” then plugs the bottom line segment on “All-American Wrestling.” We go to break and come back with a replay of the fall then Lawler threatens the crowd if they laugh at him while Vince cackles like a moron. Luger now comes out and even he laughs at Lawler. Luger then talks about how Piper’s Pit was great and even the “Brother Love Show” had its own style while mockingly comparing the King’s Court to today’s late night talk shows. Luger then takes a seat in the throne as Lawler gets pissed. Luger is up now as Lawler says that he spoke with Mr. Perfect and that Perfect does not hold a grudge and that Luger needs to realize he lost at WrestleMania because he was out of line. We then see footage of the ending to Luger vs. Yokozuna at WrestleMania with Lawler narrating how this was all Luger’s fault. Luger then calls this out for being bullshit and that all Perfect had to do was approach him in the locker room before the match to say he had a beef and they would have worked it out but instead he acted like a coward. Luger then tells Perfect he is dying for him to get out of his suit and back into the ring so he can take him out. Luger then leaves and slaps hands with the fans as Vince says we might see that match on the WrestleMania Revenge tour. At times during this promo Luger came off as passionate but there were also times in which he did come off the slightest bit believable. I did like the end, however. And Lawler as teh comic relief by falling off of the throne was great. The build towards a Luger/Perfect match continues.
Todd Pettengill now lists off all the dates of the WrestleMania Revenge tour.
Vince says its our last chance to vote for the Tag Team Title challengers.
Sparky Plugg vs. Barry Horowitz
Vince talks to Savage about trying to find a co-host with Pettengill and himself for “WWF Mania.” The announcers now talk about the whereabouts of The Undertaker as Savage jokes he could be in Worcester, MA to find out who hit Barney the Dinosaur. Plugg works over Horowitz then we hear from Perfect on the phone. Perfect says Luger has a problem in thinking he got ripped off at WrestleMania and does not care for him shooting his mouth off. Horowitz fights back and hits a DDT for a nearfall as Perfect says its no business of the announcers as to where he is at the moment. Perfect says he is unfairly blamed for Luger losing the match as Savage mocks Perfect for being scared. Plugg is back in control and runs wild until he hits the Pit Stop Plunge for the win (3:10). Perfect had also vowed to slap Luger if he got in his face again before he hung up the phone.
Thoughts: The match was a backdrop for Perfect to call-in and give his side of the story once again. To be honest there has not been much angle advancement here. Just more of the same from both men with Perfect saying he was not biased and Luger saying Perfect should have been a man and talked with him before the match.
The Quebecers are at the WWF Hotline Headquarters and yell at the operators. We then see the three teams all pointing at themselves as to say they are the #1 contenders.
Back from break with The Quebecers & Johnny Polo heading out to the ring. They await their challengers and out come Men on a Mission. Oscar raps about beating them before and how they’ll do it again.
WWF Tag Team Title Match: The Quebecers (c) w/ Johnny Polo vs. Men on a Mission w/ Oscar
MoM beat on The Quebecers before the bell, even knocking Polo off of the apron. We then go to break and return with Mo taking down Jacques with a shoulder block. Pierre then attacks Mo from behind on the apron then tags in and stomps on Mo in the corner. Mo blocks a floatover head scissors attempt by crotching Pierre on the top rope then bouncing him up and down. Mabel tags and hits a leg drop as Vince says The Quebecers had to prepare for three different teams tonight, putting them at a disadvantage. Mabel misses a corner splash then The Quebecers use some quick tags but Mabel catches Pierre with an uranage. Mo tags in and covers but Jacques breaks that up and stomps away. Jacques then officially tags in and slaps Mo across the face before stomping away. The Quebecers keep running interference in order to maintain control of the match. We go to another break then return with The Quebecers using a double-team move for a nearfall. They keep using quick tags and hitting double-team moves but Mo is able to stay alive. The crowd starts a “Let’s go Mo” chant until Pierre whiffs on a running attack and spills outside. Pierre is able to cut off a tag attempt then we get a sloppy double clothesline spot as both men are down. Mo makes the tag but Jacques had distracted the referee and Mabel was ordered back onto the apron but Mo fights back and makes the tag that the ref sees. Mabel runs wild and dumps Pierre, who is still the legal man, but misses a splash on Jacques. Pierre is tagged in and Jacques uses a rocket launcher shoulder block on him then the Quebecers switch with Pierre covering but Mo snuck in to put Mabel on top and the ref counts but that only gets two. Mo is in now and we get Jacques reversing a small package that the ref took forever to see and it gets two. The match breaks down with Polo stomping Mo then getting caught by Mabel on the outside. The ref yells at Mabel but as that happens The Quebecers double-team Mo then put him away with the assisted senton (9:37) *1/2.
Thoughts: Most of the match okay but good lord did it fall apart near the end. The ref being confused and on commentary having them unable to keep track as to which Quebecer was the legal man despite the fact it was extremely easy to do so if you were paying half-attention killed any excitement for the viewer at home. With MoM losing again it opens the door for a new challenger like The Headshrinkers.
We get an ad to hype next week’s Bret Hart vs. Kwang match. I did not specifically hear this being for the title but the voiceover said Bret was not ducking any challengers.
A video package of The Bushwhackers, Doink, and Dink at the White House Easter Egg Roll. Trying to put on some positive PR in a time where the company desperately needed some.
IRS is now in the ring to yell at the tax cheats about only having four days left to file their taxes. He then calls out Tatanka to pay up on his gift tax for the headdress. This feud really has sucked.
We then see Jerry Lawler backstage as he is pissed over falling off of his throne while Vince laughs then we see a replay of this to end the show.
Final Thoughts: A good portion of the show focused on the Tag Team Title match, which was not good. Other than that the main goals were to push the Luger/Perfect feud and push Diesel as a future star. Next week we get Bret vs. Kwang and the return of Lawler but right now this is not exactly a company filled with hot feuds and characters.
