Stone Colds walkout.

By Scott Keith on September 3, 2019

Scott – a few questions about Steve Austin walking out on the WWE in 2002. From what I’ve understood it was because he was frustrated with creative and being asked to job to Lesnar on Raw was the last straw.

So…….

1. Was Austin’s character/creative direction bad at that point? If so what should they have been doing with the Stone Cold character at that point?

2. Would there have been money in an Austin-Lesnar program? Austin left a month or 2 after Wrestlemania that year. Maybe they could have built to an Austin-Lesnar match at summer slam that year?

3. Once Austin did come back they built towards the Austin-Rock match at WM 19. I personally love that match but I sometimes feel like it doesn’t get much love. What do you think???

Thank you for your time!

Dude, ONE QUESTION at a time. Then I can just answer from my phone. Keep it short and sweet, people.

Anyway, Austin was kind of done as a top guy after they botched the Invasion so badly and he started having his personal life issues, and he really did need to just get off TV for a while. Would there have been money in Lesnar? Maybe, but I don't think they were going to book it in a way that would have helped. The Rock match is great as his last stand, but the problem is that Steve kept coming back afterwards with the authority figure nonsense and he really got to be diminishing returns, especially the "Sheriff Austin" crap.
