Indies and Insanity: August 29, 2019
By Andy PG on August 29, 2019
College Football is back! ESPN has a double-header of UCLA/Cincinnati and Utah/BYU (rivalry alert!). If you can wait until 9ET, FS1 is showing South Dakota State against Minnesota in what could be a sneaky good game. CBS Sports has Central Florida against Florida A&M. ACC Network has Georgia Tech/Clemson, and SEC Network has Texas State/Texas A&M.
Plus, there’s US Open coverage on ESPN2.
Oh, and now the highlights of independent wrestling! (NOTE: AEW is beyond the scope of this column.)
Chicago, though, is Ground Zero for independent action this weekend, as piggybacking on All Out is pretty popular! Let’s see what we have:
- AAW is the big one this week, doing the Jim Lynam Memorial Tournament, a two-night, 16-man event starting tonight! The only non-tournament match we know is Besties vs. LAX, which is a big tag match! Here’s the field:
- Ace Austin vs. Laredo Kid
- Ace Romero vs. Willie Mack
- Colt Cabana vs. Maxwell Jacob Friedman
- Curt Stallion vs. Joey Lynch
- Eddie Kingston vs. Jimmy Jacobs
- Fatu vs. Jake Atlas
- Jake Something vs. Josh Alexander
- Myron Reed vs. Trey Miguel
- Black Label Pro and Game Changer Wrestling are teaming up in Hoffman Estates on Friday late night for 2 Cups Stuffed! The GCW title is on the line as Nick Gage defends against Effy! Gangrel takes on Orange Cassidy! Ethan Page faces Homicide! Gary Jay and Jake Parnell meet for the 2935th time! And Mance Warner squares off against Jerry Lawler!
- Meanwhile in London, it’s the Summer Sizzler tomorrow night! Andy Quildan’s ownership of RPW could end if his pick Will Ospreay loses to David Starr, but if Oz wins, Starr is done with RPW! Aussie Open face Josh Bodom and Sha Samuels, with the winning team getting a future IWGP Tag Title shot! And in the main event, New Japan puts in a dream tag as Kazuchika Okada and Hiroshi Tanahashi face Minoru Suzuki and Zack Sabre Jr.!
- RISE will be in Berwyn on Saturday with a Rising Stars Tournament! Eight women look to say hello to the big stage by winning three times in one day: Elayna Black, Hawlee Cromwell, Laynie Luck (my sentimental pick), Max the Impaler, Queen Aminata, Sierra, Sophie King, and Valentina Loca! In addition the tag titles are on the line as Jessicka Havoc and Nevaeh defend against Paradise Lost, while Devon Monroe takes on Effy in non-tournament action!
Your independent wrestling Match Of The Week will be… let’s go off the grid here. From Limitless Wrestling in Maine, here’s a scramble: DL Hurst, Nico Silva, Aiden Aggro, Alec Price, CJ Cruz, and Brandino square off. Maybe you too can find someone to like!
Bring the Insanity!
