Indies and Insanity: July 25, 2019

By Andy PG on July 25, 2019

We are in a dark time in sports fandom. No MLB game of the week, NFL preseason yet to start, and ESPN is resorting to showing The Basketball Tournament (its real name) tonight.

Go to beIN Sport if you have to. They’ve got Copa Sudamericana, which is the Europa Cup of South America.

Or, heck, go watch the CRAB show Tommy Hall reviewed. It’s on IWTV.

And THAT’S MY SEGUE to discuss this weekend’s top shows outside the big boys!

And WHOA NELLY do we have a big weekend coming up!

  • We open in Cleveland tonight, as AIW hosts Japanese megastar (2016 AJPW Champions Carnival winner; BJW former heavyweight champion; DDT former heavyweight champion; Zero-1 former heavyweight champion; 2010 Japan Indie MVP) Daisuke Sekimoto! He’ll be taking on KTB in the semi-main, with the main event being a six-man tag of Dom Garrini, Matthew Justice, and Nick Gage against Joshua Bishop, Wes Barkley, and Tim Donst! In addition, Ethan Page squares off against NXT extra Twan Tucker, and the Philly-Marino Experience face a reunite Youthanazia!
  • Tomorrow night in LA, it’s PWG’s 16th Anniversary show! The PWG Tag Team Titles are on the line as the Rascalz face LAX! A huge trios match as Bandido, Flamita, and Rey Horus take on Black Taurus, Laredo Kid, and Puma King! Plus David Starr, Joey Janela, the Best Friends, and much more!
  • CMLL, as always, brings you Super Viernes on Friday in Mexico City! Your trios main event is Caristico, Mistico, and Volador Jr teaming up to take on Sanson, Cuatrero, and Forastero! Meanwhile, Barbaro Cavernario has the lightning match duties facing El Valiente!
  • Saturday in Crown Point, Indiana, Black Label Pro gives us Dropkicks and Dragons! Your main event sees Kobe Durst defend the big gold belt against Ethan Page in a Last Man Standing match! In a stiff-off, Tom Lawlor takes on Gary Jay! Jordynne Grace gets to toss Swoggle around! Allie Kat faces Tenille “Emma” Dashwood! What a show we got here!
  • Sunday night in Joizey, ICW:New York gives us Respect the Game as Daisuke Sekimoto continues his tour by taking on Eddie Kingston! Dan Maff and Nick Gage kill each other for your pleasure, an Kikutaro takes on Orange Cassidy in what should be… erm… what’s the opposite of “intense”?
  • But you SHOW OF THE WEEK is Beyond Wrestling presenting their signature event, Americanrana! Mr. Americanrana (nickname #6 out of like 20) David Starr faces Joey Janela in the main event in a one-hour Iron Man match! Johnny Your Promotion Name Here faces Josh Briggs! More Daisuke Sekimoto as he goes against Chris Dickinson! The Rock and Roll Express face Butcher and the Blade! And in a “what drugs made someone think of this” match, it’s Tom Lawlor and Bryan “Yes, That Bryan” Alvarez against Nick Gage and Thomas “The Guy From The Heart Throbs, If Anyone Remembers Him” Santell! Sunday afternoon in Massachusetts — which means you can follow the talent to do a doubleheader with ICWNY!
  • If you’re still in the Saint Louis area — just across the river in Collinsville, IL, to be precise — catch Glory Pro’s Day of the Dragon! This Sunday afternoon (featuring a meet’n’greet with Ricky Steamboat) gives you Eddie Kingston defending the big gold against PACO and Curt Stallion in a triple threat (how he’s gonna get to New York on time is something else). Meanwhile, the Besties in the World defend the tag gold against the Four Star Heroes, and a new secondary title is about to be introduced with quarterfinal that night!
  • PROGRESS does Chapter 93 in London! The main event sees PROGRESS Tag Champs Aussie Open defend against NXT:UK Tag Champs the Grizzled Young Veterans! Rickey Shane Page faces Travis Banks! CCK takes on the South Pacific Power Trip! And who knows what subtitle this’ll have.
  • And we finish our look right here in DC, as Prime Time Pro Wrestling puts on Washington Monumental! Breaux Keller defends the big gold against Jaden Newman! Still Life takes on Cabana Man Dan! And Jimmy Jacobs looks to create his own demented work of art by taking on BLANK!

Your Indie Match of the Week comes from a group calling itself Wrestling Has A Tomorrow (WHAT? Yes, we know…) and is a lightning match between Austin Theory and Anthony Henry! If you love EVOLVE, I already have you attention!

Bring the insanity!
