WWF Monday Night RAW – February 21st, 1994

By Brian Bayless on July 23, 2019

February 21, 1994

From the Mid-Hudson Civic Center in Poughkeepsie, NY

Your hosts are Vince McMahon and Randy Savage

WWF Tag Team Champions: The Quebecers (c) w/ Johnny Polo vs. Razor Ramon & 1-2-3 Kid

Kid has replaced the previously announced Marty Jannetty as Razor’s partner because Marty was fired. Savage notes how Kid was on crutches a few weeks ago as The Quebecers attack him from behind and target his knee. Kid fights back then Razor returns and they almost get the win when Razor used a fallaway slam to toss Kid on top of Pierre. The Quebecers regroup on the outside then finally return just to stall. Kid works over Pierre on the mat then Razor tags in and works the arm. The crowd is chanting for Razor as Vince talks about the ladder match at WrestleMania. Razor runs over Pierre but he gets tripped up presumably by Polo as it was not seen on camera but Savage thought he saw it happen. Razor fights back then heads outside where he gives Polo the Razor’s Edge on the floor. The Quebecers are furious as we see a few officials head out to take Polo backstage. We go to break then return as Vince tells us that Polo is backstage. Kid works the arm of Pierre while landing some kicks. Razor is back in and drops to his knee and low blows Pierre to avoid a leap frog. Razor & Kid knock Jacques off of the apron then Kid hits a spinning heel kick for two. Kid hobbles around then works the leg of Pierre. Razor & Kid maintain control as they now work the leg of Jacques. Diesel has now appeared in the aisle and it distracts Razor enough to let Jacques fight back. The Quebecers cut the ring in half and we go to another commercial. We return as the camera focuses on Diesel as we can see the match in the reflection of his sunglasses. Razor avoids The Quebecers then tags out as Kid runs wild. The Quebecers then double-team Kid as Diesel is still standing in the aisle. The Quebecers continue to hit Kid with double-team moves until Kid is able to avoid an assisted senton. Razor tags in and now runs wild then hits Pierre with the super belly-to-back suplex and sets up for the Razor’s Edge. Razor covers and Diesel comes closer but Shawn Michaels speeds out and breaks up the pin for the DQ (16:12 shown) ***1/4. After the match, Kid goes after Shawn then Shawn teases going back into the ring with Vince yelling at him to do so but he leaves with Diesel.

Thoughts: Good match here was Kid was able to shine even while working hurt. The DQ finish was predictable with Diesel standing out there forever in the aisle but it played into the Razor/Shawn feud at least with Shawn fucking over Razor’s chance at another title.

We get a video hyping up next week’s World Heavyweight Title match between Yokozuna and Randy Savage. After that airs, Savage says he will three-peat then go to WrestleMania to beat both Lex Luger and Bret Hart. After that, Jim Cornette tells Savage to apologize for thinking he can beat Yokozuna because he’s going to get snapped like a Slim Jim. Cornette then calls out Tom Prichard for his match against Bret Hart.

Tom Prichard w/ Jim Cornette vs. Bret “The Hitman” Hart

Savage continues to guarantee victory next week as Bret and Tom lock up and end up in a stalemate after some work on the mat. Bret finally grounds Prichard after a counter move and works a hammerlock for a bit. Prichard bails for a breather as Cornette fans him off with his tennis racket as Vince wonders if Jimmy Del Ray is around. Prichard grabs the hair then knees Bret in the gut but misses an elbow drop as Bret goes back to work on the arm. Vince points out Nikolai Volkoff in the crowd with Savage joking that he is as ugly as ever. We go to break and return with Prichard roughing up Bret in the corner. We hear from Donnie Wahlberg on the phone as he will be at WrestleMania while Prichard uses a chin lock. Vince then asks Donnie if there is any professional jealously between his brother Marky Mark and himself but Donnie says they are free of that despite people creating drama. Prichard now works a surfboard as Donnie is off the phone. Cornette motions to whack Bret with the tennis racket but Savage leaves the booth and takes it away as Cornette crashes into the steps. Savage is now back in the booth with the racket as we go to break. We then return as Bret uses a side Russian leg sweep for two. Bret gets a few other nearfalls but Cornette grabs his leg and that allows Prichard to take him out with a high knee. Owen now runs out to taunt Bret, asking if he needs help getting up then rolls him inside. Owen yells into the camera how Bret always needs his help then Bret hits a suplex and turns Prichard over for the Sharpshooter and the win as Owen keeps yelling about Bret in the aisle (12:23 shown) **1/2. Bret wants Owen to come into the ring but gets held back by a referee.

Thoughts: The match was fine but certainly not memorable or anything. And like the first match this was designed to add heat to another WrestleMania match this time with Bret and Owen. I thought Owen was pretty damn good here in yelling at Bret to get up and yelling in the aisle about him being better than his brother. The Donnie Wahlberg stuff, which I guess was used to tie into the Bret/Owen dynamic by mentioning his brother, just seemed like a waste.

WrestleMania X Report with Todd Pettengill. We learn that Alundra Blayze will defend the WWF Women’s Title but her opponent as yet to be named.

We now see Jim Cornette bring out Yokozuna & Mr. Fuji. Then, after a brief promo from Little Richard, Cornette says Savage is a thief who stole his property. Savage then slides into the ring and ends up knocking Yokozuna off of the apron as Vince hypes up next week’s title match.

Final Thoughts: I liked the show. We had two long matches involving talent at the top of the WrestleMania card without any filler. It was almost like watching a 60 minute version of “Saturday Night’s Main Event.” Plus, they built up next week’s title match between Yokozuna and Savage so we have to look forward too for next week.
