WW-ECW
By Scott Keith on June 30, 2019
I remember reading that when they did the ECW Revival in the mid 2000s, the initial WWE Draft to ECW was gonna be Randy Orton, but he campaigned out of it & it ended up being Kurt Angle.
Assuming that was accurate, what do you think happens if that actually went through? Does Kurt stay with WWE cuz he's not being "demoted" instead of going to TNA? Or was Kurt a trainwreck at that point with drugs or injuries that WWE was gonna phase him down anyways?
In a fantasy booking sense, Orton as the top heel of ECW would've been brilliant, similar to Cena as the super heel of One Night Stand…
Oh yeah, Angle was a train flying off the cliff like at the end of the Back to the Future 3 no matter what. Much like Jeff Hardy, anything they did with him was just delaying the inevitable. The feeling at the time (just speculation, of course) was WWE were cutting ties because they didn't want him dying on their payroll, which is a pretty scary thought regardless.
Orton as the heel of ECW is a pretty cool concept, though. He could be condescending and snotty enough to pull it off.
