December 4, 1993
From Farrell Hall in Delhi, NY
Your hosts are Vince McMahon (who is wearing a Santa cap) and Stan Lane (who holds up a stocking for Doink the Clown and a smaller one for Dink).
Vince says we will see Shawn Michaels, Diesel, Razor Ramon, and the 1-2-3 Kid this week and mentions how they all were involved in a melee on RAW this past Monday night.
Ludvig Borga vs. John Paul
Borga beats on Paul in the corner as Lane puts over how Borga believes he is far superior to American athletes. Vince mentions a possible Luger/Borga match as Borga uses a delayed vertical suplex then talks about Tatanka returning to action next week. Borga whiffs on a corner splash then Paul hits a dropkick and a pair of clotheslines but goes up top and gets caught in a powerslam then Borga uses a backbreaker submission for the win (2:17).
Thoughts: They’re still hyping the Borga/Luger feud but just as a house show program at this point. The Borga mega push has ended.
WWF Update with Gorilla Monsoon. After talking about the Survivor Series and how great it was before seeing clips of the Bret/Owen blowout from the PPV. We then hear from both as Owen says the family feud was never supposed to be against him and is sick of carrying the load and being in Bret’s shadow. He points out how he eliminated two men and tried a third but Bret got in the way then the rest of the family flocked to Bret and left him alone then they celebrated without him. Bret is then shown acting calmer as he stresses the family is worried and wants to work out any problems. Great stuff from Owen here. He was justified in most of what he said but showing enough paranoia to make him come off irrational. They’ve done a great job with the follow up of what happened at the Survivor Series with this storyline.
Bob Backlund vs. Iron Mike Sharpe
Vince talks about the Bret/Owen drama and references the Smothers Brothers in an incredibly dated reference. Backlund works over Sharpe then sits on top of Sharpe after the latter dropped down and turns that into a rollup for the win (1:38).
Thoughts: Just a backdrop for the announcers to talk about Bret/Owen. Backlund back on TV more in squash matches now make it seem like he is gonna get pushed again.
We see a clip of Yokozuna/Undertaker at the Survivor Series where Undertaker sat up to avoid a second Bonzai Drop used to hype their feud and sell the Coliseum Home Video release, which will be available Wednesday. The story is that Yokozuna finally showed fear as a result of what happened to hype up their feud, which was put on pause for the most part after their confrontation several weeks ago on Superstars.
The Headshrinkers w/ Afa vs. Greg Hatfield & Todd Mata
Vince plugs the “Undertaker’s Gravest Matches” release for Coliseum Home Video as the Headshrinkers ambush their opponents. Mata gets tossed around as Vince talk about Afa’s brother, Sika, resting comfortably in Samoa. The Headshrinkers now beat the crap out of Hatfield until Fatu puts him away with a top rope splash (2:15).
Thoughts: More hyping up The Headshrinkers as badasses, something they could do even without any hype whatsoever.
We now get an honorary kid ring announcer, Chris Walsh, as he introduces the 1-2-3 Kid and gets a few pats on the back then introduces his opponent, Glen Ruth.
1-2-3 Kid vs. Glen Ruth
Vince talks about Kid taking out Shawn Michaels on RAW this past Monday night to save Razor Ramon before talking about the upcoming Kid vs. Shawn match this coming Monday night. They trade holds on the mat then Ruth catches Kid with a dropkick as Vince puts over Kid’s resilience. Kid takes Ruth down with a spinning heel kick then hits a running dropkick in the corner before a flying body press gets the win (2:06). Vince says that Kid will be the underdog on RAW against Shawn.
Thoughts: All talk about the upcoming Shawn/Kid match on RAW.
We get another Jeff Jarrett vignette. He’s walking with an older man and talks about the disrespect shown to him at Buddy Lee’s office. He is then upset over the gift shops in Nashville and talks to a saxophone player about how he never had a break either. He calls the player “Waldo” and gives him a dollar after saying he is using the WWF as a platform to become a country music star. Waldo then takes us out with a sax solo.
Diesel vs. Frank Kanyak
Kanyak fights back after escaping from a slam attempt but runs into a big boot. Diesel then drops an elbow and hits a gutwrench suplex before a side slam gets the win (1:09).
Thoughts: A new finisher here for Diesel as he is now involved in the Razor/Shawn feud.
The Undertaker tells us not to drink and drive.
Men on a Mission w/ Oscar vs. Steve Smith & Gus Kantarakis
Smith tries to ambush Mabel but that fails. Mabel then busts out the Mr. Perfect neck snap and follows that with a back drop. Smith then punches Mo but Mo comes back with a double clothesline. MoM then works over Kantarakis until they put him away after Mo pushed Mabel on top for the win (2:00).
Thoughts: Mabel was showing off his agility but the team is still being presented as a lower card team used to hype the crowds.
An ad for the Royal Rumble airs.
Reo’s Roundup is next. It gets a corny cowbell intro and graphic as Vince says Reo’s voice is the result of an accident when he fell off of a horse. He then welcomes Shawn Michaels, who comes out wearing a suit. Shawn holds up the Intercontinental Title belt and says the champion is back in town before addresses the allegations made by President Jack Tunney that he did not fulfill all requirements. Shawn says he does what he wants and if feels like taking his boat on the lake in Texas instead of defending the title at Madison Square Garden then he will. Shawn then makes fun of Razor, saying he combs his hair with a pork chop, then says he has the nerve to call himself the Intercontinental Title. Shawn says any Joe, or Jose, can get himself a belt and call himself champion then says there is only one undisputed Intercontinental Champion and that his himself. However, Razor Ramon interrupts and confronts Shawn, who is blowing bubbles with his gum. Razor then says he can beat Shawn 1-2-3 but instead had to go through 19 men in order to become champion. Razor then uses a toothpick to pop Shawn’s bubble as the segment ends. The stuff between Razor and Shawn was pretty good as we are heading towards an eventual match between the two.
Reno Riggins vs. Marty Jannetty
Vince talks about the Women’s Tournament as Marty works a hammerlock on the mat then after some back-and-forth, Marty gets the win with a flying fist drop (1:35).
Thoughts: Action was fine while it lasted as this was seemingly used to mention the Women’s Tournament.
We are then shown a music video recap of the show and after that Vince tells us next week will have the announcement of the Royal Rumble main event.
Final Thoughts: The storyline advancement of Bret/Owen and Razor/Shawn was strong and we are going back to Yokozuna/Undertaker being pushed on TV. Plus, next week we get the announcement of the Royal Rumble event as the build is now towards that PPV.
