WWF Monday Night RAW – November 29th, 1993

By Brian Bayless on June 20, 2019

November 29, 1993

From the Westchester County Civic Center in White Plains, NY

Your hosts are Vince McMahon and Bobby Heenan, who goes off about Gorilla Monsoon trying to put his hands on him at the Survivor Series.

Tonight, we have Razor Ramon vs. Diesel. Also in action are Ludvig Borga, Owen Hart, plus the announcement of the “Wrestler of the Year” award.

Steiner Brothers vs. Mike Khoury & Reno Riggins

Scott takes Khoury down with an arm drag as Vince says the Steiners could perhaps become Tag Team Titles once again. Scott then hits Khoury with a full nelson suplex before tagging out. The Steiners take turns working over Riggins as Vince says the Women’s Championship is underway tonight in Memphis. Khoury is back into the match as Scott hits a tilt-a-whirl slam before using the Frankensteiner for the win (3:46).

Thoughts: Some light hints about the Steiners getting a title rematch against The Quebecers and mention of the WWF Women’s Title Tournament, despite the fact we do not know a single entrant.

An ad hyping the Survivor Series encore on PPV airs.

Back to the announcers as Vince talks about the fear Yokozuna showed at the Survivor Series when The Undertaker sat up after getting attacked.

The Jeff Jarrett vignette where he tries to meet with Buddy Lee airs.

Diesel vs. Razor Ramon

This is a non-title match. Diesel shoves Razor down as Heenan says that Shawn will be on “Reo’s Roundup” this week on “Superstars” then talks about being his friend. Diesel shoves Razor down again as they fought over a wrist lock as Vince puts over Diesel’s right hand. Razor comes back with a drop toe hold then works the arm for a bit. Diesel escapes and targets the back as Heenan talks about Razor never pinning Shawn Michaels for the title. Diesel now applies a bearhug as Heenan says Shawn is the undisputed Intercontinental Champion. Diesel catches Razor with a big boot then gets a nearfall with a slam off of the corner. Diesel goes back to the bearhug then Razor fights out. Razor catches Diesel with a boot in the corner then uses a flying bulldog for two. Razor scoops up Diesel for a slam then signals for the Razor’s Edge but Shawn runs out and attacks Razor for the DQ (5:19) *1/2. Shawn then takes Razor’s belt and tries to piledrive him onto the belt but the 1-2-3 Kid runs out and takes Shawn down with a flying body press. Heenan goes off about Kid being a pain in everyone’s side since appearing on RAW.

Thoughts: The action was fine for what it was in setting up Shawn running out to attack Razor over the fact he is not recognized as the Intercontinental Champion despite never being pinned. And they made it clear that Shawn would confront Razor on “Superstars.” They also set up a potential Shawn vs. Kid match that we will learn about as the show continues.

Bam Bam Bigelow w/ Luna Vachon vs. John Crystal

Luna keeps screaming as the announcers talk about the four Doinks at the Survivor Series as Heenan gets in another dig at Gorilla. Bigelow tosses Crystal around as Vince remind us about WWF President Jack Tunney declaring that there can only be one Doink. Bigelow cranks Crystal’s neck then whips him into the corner as Crystal ends up sliding outside. Crystal returns then Bigelow yells for Doink to come out in between beating him down then Bigelow uses an enziguiri for the win (3:14).

Thoughts: More hype for the Bigelow/Doink feud which has really died down as of late.

Replay from the 11/27 edition of “Wrestling Challenge” where Santa Claus gives Doink a present, which turned out to be Dink the Clown. Dink is certainly not going to get heat on the Doink/Bigelow feud.

Vince is in the ring with the “WWF Superstar of the Year” award. This was decided by fan vote. We are first introduced to the runner up, which is Lex Luger. Heenan sarcastically says this should be good and laughs at the thought of Luger putting a sentence together as he believes he is winning the award. Luger then compliments the winner and introduces him as Bret Hart, which has Heenan upset. Bret received a good crowd reaction. Bret now puts over the fans for never stop believing in him as Vince adds he never gives up on them. Bret then talks about promising to win back the WWF World Heavyweight Title for his fans before dedicating the trophy for his fans & friends. Heenan then says he cannot wait to hear what Owen Hart has to say then adds that Owen is up next. Just a generic promo thanking the fans by Bret but it does play into the jealously angle going on between him and his brother Owen.

We see the clip of Owen getting eliminated at the Survivor Series and the confrontation that took place after the match ended. Heenan talks about loving to see family fights.

“The Rocket” Owen Hart vs. Chris Duffy

Owen has ditched the blue gear and wearing what he wore at the Survivor Series along with sunglasses similar to Bret’s. Vince wants Heenan to apologize to the Hart Family as Owen now gives his glasses to a fan. Duffy attacks Owen to start. Owen fights back and hits a spinning heel kick as Heenan talks about Owen being slighted his whole life. Vince tells us that Shawn Michaels has challenged the 1-2-3 Kid to a match for next week as a “we want Bret” chant breaks out. Vince plugs Bret appearing on Radio WWF this week as Owen hits a few European uppercuts. Duffy fights back and gets two with a jumping back elbow smash but Owen drops him with an enziguiri. Owen tosses Duffy outside then flies out with a pescado before rolling Duffy back inside for a missile dropkick. Owen then applies the Sharpshooter for the win (2:48). After the match, Heenan tries to interview Owen and asks him about Bret winning the “Wrestler of the Year” and over what happened at the Survivor Series but fails as Owen walks away.

Thoughts: Owen wrestled a bit more aggressively than usual. Ditching the blue gear was for the best and copying Bret’s gimmick of giving his glasses to a fan in the front row was a nice touch. The “We Want Bret” actually supports the point Owen is making in that he lives in his brother’s shadow. Owen walking off on Heenan also keeps us in suspense as to whether or not he was doing this to avoid Heenan’s trap or that he was too jealous to speak about the incidents.

The “WWF Unbelievable” ad airs when the guy blows off his hot wife to watch RAW.

Ludvig Borga vs. Scott Taylor

Borga attacks Taylor before the bell then taunts the fans. Vince then taunts Heenan for getting embarrassed by Gorilla at the Survivor Series as Taylor tries a few clotheslines until Borga uses one of his own. Vince says the 1-2-3 Kid & Razor Ramon will appear before the show ends as Borga drops Taylor with a lifting choke hold. Borga jaws with the fans but is barely getting any heat then Borga uses a torture rack for the win (2:26). Borga keeps the hold on after the bell then finally drops Taylor.

Thoughts: After the Survivor Series it was clear that Borga has no business being a top heel. And he was not talked up much on commentary has they spent more time hyping a potential Shawn vs. Kid match for next week.

We see the Kid & Razor split screen with the announcers. Razor tells Shawn that the Kid can beat anyone. Kid then promises to give 100% as the match is confirmed.

Vince plugs the encore presentation of the Survivor Series and taunts Heenan again about getting embarrassed by Gorilla. They are certainly going to have a segment result from this as we will see soon enough.

Also next week are Doink the Clown, Crush, and the featured match of 1-2-3 Kid vs. Shawn Michaels as a clip of Bret raising his trophy ends the show.

Final Thoughts: The wrestling was completely forgettable but they did a strong job with the Razor/Shawn and Bret/Owen storylines, even giving us a Shawn vs. Kid match for next week, as the Survivor Series fallout continues.
