WWF Superstars – November 27th, 1993

By Brian Bayless on June 19, 2019

November 27, 1993

From Farrell Hall in Delhi, NY

Your hosts are Vince McMahon and Stan Lane in his debut as WWF color commentator. Vince tells us that Reo Rodgers will not be here as he had an accident when he fell off of his horse. Lane talks about the Survivor Series and did a fine job.

This week in action are Shawn Michaels, Steiner Brothers, and Crush. Also, Raymond Rougeau will interview Santa Claus and more!

Steiner Brothers vs. Steve Smith & Laverne Gill

Lane tells a lame joke about Gill being related to country music star Vince Gill. Scott dropkicks Gill before tossing him into the corner. Smith tags in as the announcers talk about the problems Bret and Owen Hart had at the Survivor Series. Scott hits Smith with an overhead suplex then tags out and soon after that the Steiners use a Doomsday Bulldog for the win (2:12). Vince then tells us that Pierre of The Quebecers has fully recovered from his concussion.

Thoughts: Most of the focus was on the Bret/Owen confrontation at the Survivor Series. They did briefly mention how Pierre will be returning at the end so I expect more talk about the Steiners/Quebecers feud in the coming weeks.

WWF Update with Gorilla Monsoon. We are told about a tournament taking place in Memphis, TN that will crown the WWF Women’s Champion with more details coming week before Gorilla talks to Owen Hart over the phone. Owen says he does not want to be referred to as the brother of Bret because he is tired of being in his shadow and can speak for himself. Gorilla asks about the dissension at the Survivor Series as Owen says his frustration came out and wants to prove he is as good as Bret. Owen then calls out Bret for a lack of leadership and says it was not his fault while Gorilla questions Owen. Gorilla then tells Owen to say hi to his dad before hyping the Survivor Series replay. I really liked this segment as Owen explained his actions while strongly hinting at a heel turn but not fully turning. Gorilla even did a solid job handling the interview and this was better than the typical Update segment which usually recapped a segment from the prior week followed by interviews. Plus, the Women’s Division appears to be back again after disappearing in 1989 and we will see how its reintroduced into the company.

Mike Khoury vs. Razor Ramon

Razor beats on Khoury as Vince tells us that Razor will face Diesel in a non-title match this coming Monday night on RAW. Razor then hits Khoury with a super fallaway slam as the announcers talk about Shawn Michaels looking on while Vince says Razor always has fun in the ring. Razor now hits a super belly-to-back suplex then uses the Razor’s Edge for the win as Vince says we will have a special guest ring announcer coming up next (2:33). Vince then talks about Razor having an inevitable showdown against Shawn as we see a closeup of the Intercontinental Title belt around Razor’s waist.

Thoughts: They all but said that Shawn and Razor will have a confrontation on RAW. It an easy feud to go with since Shawn is still believing he is the IC champion while Razor is currently recognized as champion as both men wear title belts to the ring

We then see a young child come into the ring as he apparently won a contest to announce the next match. This is then followed with a video package from Lex Luger as he talks about always wanting a career in professional sports dating back to when he was a child then says in his life there was absolutely no room for drugs and tells the kids to just say “no” to drugs. Seeing how Luger himself admitted at the time he was partying its no wonder he could not come off convincing in this role.

Mike Bucci vs. Adam Bomb w/ Harvey Whippleman

The poor kid, J.B. Yetter, accidentally read off the weight of Bucci as “220 lebs” instead of using pounds. Bomb says he is taking us to ground zero as Vince plugs a house show in White Plains, NY. Bomb takes down Bucci with a shoulder block then follows with a slam. Bucci is able to avoid an elbow drop then works the arm as Vince wonders why he’d do that instead of trying to knock him down and ends up getting attacked. Bomb drops Bucci across the top rope and soon after that uses the Atom Smasher for the win (1:51).

Thoughts: They are showcasing Bomb more and putting him over on commentary as he gets a new beginning with Whippleman as his manager.

An ad hyping up the Survivor Series PPV replay airs.

Raymond Rougeau now welcomes the “greatest WWF Superstar of all-time”, Santa Claus. There are several kids sitting on the edge of the interview platform. Santa then gives the kids WWF merchandise as presents and even gives Rougeau an Undertaker bear. A segment solely designed to shill merchandise for the Holiday season.

Now, a timely ad for the WWF Merchandise Catalog airs.

Shawn Michaels vs. Dan Dubiel

Shawn is still wearing his Intercontinental Title belt as Vince says Shawn refuses to give it up because he was not defeated for the title. Shawn then grabs the mic to say he is the undisputed WWF Intercontinental Champion. Dubiel gets two with a crossbody then works the arm but Shawn clotheslines him after an Irish whip sequence. Vince points out that Shawn is still chewing his gum as Stan adds that Dubiel will be doing “more ducking than Michael Jackson” after this match. Shawn then hits a super kick, as called by Vince, before using a piledriver for the win as he covers Dubiel with his hand over his face as to check his manicure (1:51). Shawn then rolls Dubiel outside before checking his reflection in the title belt.

Thoughts: Shawn is back to being as arrogant as ever and its even more obvious that he will be feuding against Razor.

Vince plugs the “Posters 8” magazine that features Doink the Clown.

Doink the Clown comes out for his match as Vince tells us that on “WWF Mania,” the news was broke that WWF President Jack Tunney said there could only be one Doink. However, we see another Doink on the video wall then Doink brings out “Dink,” who is midget wrestler Tiger Jackson dressed as Doink. Vince was in all his glory here.

Doink the Clown w/ Dink vs. Sid Garrison

Vince cannot stop laughing at Dink, who is messing with Garrison and running around the ring. Dink trips up Garrison then is thrown at him by Doink before the bell rings. Doink hits a Saito suplex then drops Garrison with an elbow before using a flying sit-down splash for the win (0:59). After the match we get even more wackiness with Dink as Vince wants to know what Bam Bam Bigelow & Luna Vachon are thinking.

Thoughts: Vince loved this but the midget wrestling humor seems dated as we are heading into 1994.

Another Jeff Jarrett vignette. We have Ronnie P. Gossett of Memphis Wrestling fame play Buddy Lee’s cousin as he is with Jarrett attempting to see Buddy. They barge into his office but Buddy is not here and they are told to leave. Not much to this segment but Jarrett’s arrogance in these pieces is always great.

Vince now wants Stan’s reaction about Jarrett. Stan said he is impressed with Jarrett’s wrestling ability and to stick with that instead of singing and dancing.

Crush w/ Mr. Fuji vs. Paul Jones

This was not the Paul Jones of NWA fame. Crush beats on Jones as we get some “USA” chants. Crush then drops Jones with a press slam before taunting the crowd before using a head vice for the win (1:58). The camera shows a close up of a new Randy Savage t-shirt in the crowd.

Thoughts: They’re putting Crush over as a monster for his feud against Savage. And they want us to anger him with “USA” chants despite being from Hawaii.

Next week in action are Marty Jannetty, Diesel, 1-2-3 Kid, Men on a Mission, and Ludvig Borga.

We end things with a music video recap of the show, which is a new feature. The music itself was generic though.

Final Thoughts: They did a strong job following up on the fallout between Bret and Owen at the Survivor Series. We also saw that they’re very likely going with a Shawn vs. Razor feud. Also, we found out about the Women’s Division returning and that there can only be one Doink going forward as we can expect the Survivor Series fallout to extend into next week as well. And, another new color commentator here in Stan Lane. His jokes were not good but he was largely inoffensive on commentary(typical of babyface commentators in the WWF), which is a significant upgrade over Reo Rodgers.
