WWF Wrestling Challenge – November 21st, 1993

By Brian Bayless on June 16, 2019

November 21, 1993

From the Glens Falls Civic Center in Glens Falls, NY

Your hosts are Jim Ross and Bobby Heenan

This week in action are Razor Ramon, Ludvig Borga, Men on a Mission, Adam Bomb, The Headshrinkers, and the featured match of Marty Jannetty vs. Diesel.

Razor Ramon vs. Barry Horowitz

Horowitz works the arm to start but Razor takes over. Razor then slaps Horowitz after getting elbowed in the face then works the arm. Horowitz fights back and hammers away until Razor catches him with a fallaway slam. Razor then places Horowitz on the top rope and uses a belly-to-back superplex for the win (2:48).

Thoughts: Decent action here as the announcers hyped up the revealing of Pierre’s replacement on the Foreign Fanatics team and some hype for Razor’s match at the PPV.

WWF Special Report with Lord Alfred Hayes, who once again refers to Lex Luger as the “pompous one” as we see how he took out Pierre last Monday night on RAW. Hayes calls out the biased officiating and how Luger used a premeditated attack to eliminate Pierre from the Survivor Series then smiles to tell us the news of Crush replacing Pierre at the Survivor Series. Heel Lord Alfred really did not fit in with this product. Maybe years later it could have came off better but these types of segments would become obsolete at that point anyway.

Ludvig Borga vs. Chaz Ware

Borga beats on Ware but misses an elbow drop. Ware staggers Borga with a dropkick and a clothesline but then ends up running into a clothesline. Borga goes back to beating on Ware then puts him away with a backbreaker submission (2:17).

Thoughts: Another win to put over Borga heading into the PPV.

Men on a Mission vs. The Executioners

The Executioners try to work over Mabel but end up getting tossed outside. Heenan makes fun of rap music as the Executioners choke out Mo behind the ref’s back. Mo comes back with a double clothesline then tags out as Mabel runs wild. The match breaks down now with Mabel slamming the Executioners on top of each other before Mo pushes him down on top of them with a bulldog for the win (3:56).

Thoughts: They really focused on Mabel in this match instead of the MoM gimmick. With his size and the fact he did have some agility it made sense as Mo looked out of place and Oscar came off as nothing more than a goof.

The Jeff Jarrett vignette from RAW airs.

Adam Bomb w/ Harvey Whippleman vs. Tony Webb

Bomb beats on Webb in the corner but then eats boot on a charge. Webb comes off the top with a clothesline but after that gets caught in a powerslam. Bomb then hits a back suplex and follows with a flying clothesline before the Atom Smasher gets the win (1:47).

Thoughts: They are talking up Bomb more and with Whippleman he does seem in line for an actual feud/storyline as opposed to running in place when paired with Polo.

An ad for the WWF Merchandise Catalog airs.

Diesel vs. Marty Jannetty

Diesel takes control early as Ross says Diesel is not a technical wrestler but a “street fighter.” Diesel cuts off Marty’s comeback but Marty takes him down with a flying headscissors. Marty then takes Diesel over the top rope with a dropkick and eventually flies out with a pescado. Diesel ends up shoving Marty into the ring post as Heenan does not know why you’d take these types of risks heading into the Survivor Series. Diesel targets the back as Razor is now at ringside. Diesel heads out on the apron to jaw with Razor but Marty knocks him down with a forearm and Diesel ends up caught in the ropes and gets counted out (3:59) *1/2. Diesel then tries to attack a celebrating Marty but failed as Marty was able to escape as Diesel is irate.

Thoughts: A match to get heat not only for the PPV but also for the Razor vs. Diesel matches for the Intercontinental Title at the house shows. The match itself was fine for what it was and Marty carried things quite well. Marty really had a strong year in-ring for 1993.

An ad for the Survivor Series airs.

Headshrinkers w/ Afa vs. Corey Student & Steve Greenman

Student attacks Samu from behind then is quickly beaten down. Greenman is in now and gets his ass kicked then Fatu hits a top rope splash for the win (1:41). Heenan then tells Ross he doesn’t have to be with him too much longer as Ross says they still have to go over the Survivor Series Showdown.

Thoughts: Heenan’s quote is something especially knowing what happens in a few weeks. The Headshrinkers really do need a feud at this point though.

We see 1-2-3 Kid play Royal Rumble on Sega Genesis.

The hosts now hype the Survivor Series Showdown and the Survivor Series itself.

Next week in action are The Undertaker, IRS, 1-2-3 Kid, Ludvig Borga and the featured match of Rick Martel vs. Bastion Booger.

Final Thoughts: Lots of last minute hype for the PPV here and for a show that has had a major change in the co-main event. Tomorrow will be my recap of the Survivor Series Showdown then the PPV on Tuesday.
