By Brian Bayless on June 2, 2019
October 10, 1993
From the Saginaw Civic Center in Saginaw, MI
Your hosts are Jim Ross and Bobby Heenan
This week in action are the Smoking Gunns, IRS, Tatanka, Bastion Booger, Marty Jannetty, and Ludvig Borga. Plus, Mr. Perfect as guest on the “King’s Court” and more!
Smoking Gunns vs. Brian Costello & Steve Moore
Ross brings up Oklahoma University facing Texas in college football as Heenan feigns excitement. And for those unaware, Moore is the future Al Snow. Moore hits a slam and takes control early but gets too arrogant as Billy sends him out of the ring with a dropkick. The announcers talk about the Intercontinental Title match on RAW then the Gunns as possible Tag Team Title contenders. Costello is in now as the Gunns take control. Costello tags out after fighting back but Billy catches Moore with a powerslam then use the backdrop/piledriver combo for the win (3:11).
Thoughts: This was mostly used to push the Intercontinental Title match on RAW although they did at least present the Gunns as possible title contenders.
WWF Special Report with Lord Alfred Hayes. This focuses on the Bam Bam Bigelow/Doink confrontation from last week. Hayes refers to Doink as a “hairbrained harlequin” as he is not a fan. We then hear from both Bigelow and Doink to hype up this feud.
IRS vs. Kevin Kruger
IRS cuts another tired promo on the fans for being tax cheats. We get a mild “Irwin” chant as IRS beats down Kruger. IRS shoves Kruger to the mat after an abdominal stretch as Heenan puts him over for being a “tremendous competitor.” IRS stays in control then puts Kruger away with the Write Off clothesline (3:09).
Thoughts: The way they spoke on commentary you’d expect IRS to try and cost Razor the title as they were still feuding at the time.
Tatanka vs. Tom Bennett
Bennett mocks Tatanka’s salute then knees him in the gut. Tatanka then hits a few chops and catches Bennett with a powerslam. The announcers put over Tatanka’s undefeated streak while Heenan notes that Tatanka can likely get you a good price on cheap, blue jewelry. Bennett sends Tatanka down with an elbow smash but Tatanka fires up then puts Bennett away with a Samoan Drop (2:26).
Thoughts: Besides Heenan cracking ethnic jokes they continue to push Tatanka as being undefeated despite the fact he does not have a feud at the moment.
We get the video package on the Intercontinental Battle Royal followed by comments from Rick Martel and Razor Ramon as they will fight this week for the Intercontinental Title.
Bastion Booger vs. Sonny Rogers
Rogers bounces off of Booger then is hit with a hip attack. Booger tosses Rogers outside and roughs him up before using an avalanche against the post. Booger takes Rogers back inside for some more punishment then puts him away with a sit-down splash (2:26). After the match, Booger steals a hot dog from the timekeeper at ringside then shoves it in his mouth as its all over his face.
Thoughts: Just a segment to show us that Booger is gross and to amuse Vince McMahon. Too bad as Booger wasn’t bad in the ring but this gimmick is a death sentence.
The Undertaker “No Hope with Dope” ad airs.
Marty Jannetty vs. Jack Reno
Marty works a front face lock as the announcers make fun of Reno’s “trucker’s tan.” Marty dropkicks Reno then avoids an attack and knocks him down. The announcers now talk about Radio WWF then Marty puts Reno away with the Rocker Dropper (2:59). Ross says that Marty would love to be part of the Survivor Series.
Thoughts: Reno was so bad the announcers were crapping on him as Marty is now being pushed as someone with a wish to appear at the Survivor Series.
King’s Court with guest Mr. Perfect. Lawler laughs at Perfect failing to “three-peat” as Intercontinental Champion then brings him on to the set. Ross says that Diesel cost Perfect the chance at a title (at SummerSlam). Perfect then says that Diesel cost him the belt because Shawn Michaels cannot do anything by himself. Lawler then asks Perfect why he would want to mess with Diesel as Perfect says he does not care how big and tough Diesel thinks he is and gives some advice: it’s easier to jump on than to jump off before tossing his towel at Lawler and leaving the set. Good intensity from Perfect as he is now set to feud with Diesel.
Ludvig Borga vs. Gary Jackson
Borga catches Jackson with a side slam then talks trash to the crowd. The announcers talk about how much Borga hates America then puts over his boxing ability as Borga continues to beat down Jackson. The announcers now talk about a Borga/Lex Luger match as Borga kidney punches Jackson then puts him away with a torture rack (2:43).
Thoughts: More hype for the Borga/Luger feud as they are still doing everything they can to present Borga as a force.
We now see still photos of Hulk Hogan in the film “Mr. Nanny.”
Next week, the Survivor Series main events will be announced. Also in action are The Steiners, Diesel (his TV singles debut), and Doink the Clown plus highlights from the Martel/Razor Intercontinental Title match.
Final Thoughts: The focus, like on “Superstars,” was on pushing RAW with the Intercontinental Title match. We now learn they’re going with a Perfect/Diesel feud although that did not last long and we will find out more about that as this timeline continues.
