WWF Superstars of Wrestling – September 25th, 1993

By Brian Bayless on May 28, 2019

September 25, 1993

From the Welsh Civic Auditorium in Grand Rapids, MI

Your hosts are Vince McMahon, “Macho Man” Randy Savage, and Jerry “The King” Lawler

The show starts off with a replay from last week when Shawn Michaels & Diesel attacked 1-2-3- Kid in the aisle as the latter was on the way to the ring for his match until Mr. Perfect made the save. We then hear from Perfect, who appears to be at home, saying he handled he situation and guarantees Kid will not be attacked as he is now going to be in Kid’s corner. Perfect then calls out Shawn & Diesel to try and interfere. We are now getting a Kid & Perfect alliance

Adam Bomb w/ Johnny Polo vs. Kevin Kruger

Bomb tells us that he is total destruction. Polo then talks about annihilation being inevitable when you face Bomb and puts over the Atom Smasher finisher. Bomb tosses Kruger around as the announcers tell us that Razor Ramon, Bastion Booger, Tatanka, and Smoking Gunns will be here later on in the show. Bomb chokes out Kruger as we learn that Polo is now Jim Ross’s new co-host on “Radio WWF” then Bomb uses the Atom Smasher for the win (2:35).

Thoughts: This segment was used to put over Polo a lot more than it was Bomb, who is spinning his wheels.

Joe Fowler is hosting the “Face to Face” segment and is really fucking awful. Like, he can barely list off the matches on the MSG card in coherent fashion. We also see that Rick Martel is back and facing Razor Ramon. Also, Johnny Polo is shown pissed that President Jack Tunney is making The Quebecers face Adam Bomb & Bam Bam Bigelow as Polo does not even want to show up to the match. Interesting stuff with Polo having his clients face off against each other but we will soon what happens.

Razor Ramon vs. Brian Costello

The announcers talk about PJ Walker’s upset win over IRS on “Monday Night RAW.” Razor beats on Costello then hits a fallaway slam and an uranage while Lawler puts down Razor for having greasy hair. Razor slaps around Costello until he is poked in the eye but Razor fights back and drops him with a punch. Razor slaps around Costello but is poked in the eye again. Razor fights back and hits a super belly-to-back suplex then finishes off Costello with the Razor’s Edge (3:08).

Thoughts: Razor looked good as he was put over strong on commentary as his feud against IRS continues.

WWF Update with Gorilla Monsoon. This week’s subject is on The Quebecers winning the Titles under “Quebec Province Rules” two weeks ago on “Monday Night RAW.” And, despite Scott beating Pierre this past week on RAW, The Quebecers are refusing to give The Steiners a rematch because they found more deserving opponents. Gorilla talks about the obvious, that the Quebecers are afraid of the Steiners, then hypes up the Tag Title match this coming Monday on RAW. At least they are pushing matches for TV and its clearer by the day that RAW is turning into the number #1 show with the syndicated shows pushing angles for RAW (And the fact the WWF was losing syndication in many markets).

Todd Becker vs. Bastion Booger

Booger now has theme music. Its a monster-like voice saying “Booger” followed by a blowing nose sound. Vince says it looks like Booger stinks as Booger drops Becker with a clothesline. Becker gets tossed outside then is hit with an avalanche against the post. Vince then brings up Crush and how he told Savage he’d never speak to him as long as he lived as Savage is still mystified as to what happened. Booger then hits Becker with a powerslam and puts him away with a sit-down splash (1:54).

Thoughts: Same as every other Booger match with the announcers stressing how bad he smells but the real story was Vince bringing up what Crush said to Savage on RAW as they teased Crush possibly calling in again this coming Monday.

We get an “WWF Unbelievable” ad with some guy saying how the wrestlers are not tough and each time he calls them out is featuring more injuries then it ends with him in a body cast.

1-2-3 Kid w/ Mr. Perfect vs. Jack Reno

Kid shows off his agility as we get a 1-2-3 chant from the crowd. Reno celebrates like he won the lottery after landing a punch in the corner then walks into a kick. Kid hits a running leg drop for two but misses an attack in the corner. Reno targets the back as Vince says we will have an interview with Yokozuna coming up soon. Kid comes back with a spinning heel kick and hits a few more other kicks before using a La Magistral cradle for the win (2:14).

Thoughts: Once again Kid looked good but there was little chemistry shown between Perfect and himself. The announcers plugged the Yokozuna interview for later on in the show.

We then see the vignette of Ludvig Borga at the polluted river and how Luger stands up for garbage like this and that America stinks. Borga’s delivery sucked.

Barry Horowitz vs. Tatanka

Lawler talks about Doink the Clown being his guest on the King’s Court this weekend on “Wrestling Challenge” while insulting Doink for being an idiot. Tatanka uses a flurry of offense on Horowitz until Horowitz knees him in the back. Horowitz uses an inverted DDT for a nearfall then stomps away. Tatanka then fires up and fights back until using a Samoan Drop for the win (2:35).

Thoughts: Tatanka’s undefeated streak is still mentioned whenever he is on TV but his feud with Bigelow seems to be done and does not appear to be moving up the card. Its getting clearer that Tatanka’s streak is going to end soon enough.

Smoking Gunns vs. Tom Stone & Dan Rubins

Lawler refers to a woman in the crowd as Jamie Lee Curtis. She did have a similar hair style. The Gunns work over Stone to start. Vince jokes that Rubins is the cousin of Paul Reubens as Rubins now gets beat down. Vince puts the Gunns over as possibly getting the title match on RAW as Lawler talks about some “phony Canadians” he will be exposing soon. The Gunns stay in control then put Rubins away with the back drop into a piledriver combination (2:18).

Thoughts: They tried to paint the Gunns as possible title contenders but the act really isn’t over enough. We also heard Lawler talk about exposing some phony Canadians, which is obviously going to be the Hart Family as that feud remains hot.

Next week in action are The Steiners, Ludvig Borga, Doink the Clown, IRS, and Marty Jannetty.

Boni Blackstone welcomes Yokozuna, Jim Cornette, and Mr. Fuji to the interview platform. Cornette tells us the facts are that Yokozuna is still the World Heavyweight champion and that Lex Luger is not getting a rematch. Cornette then says he has scanned the competition and there is no one that stands a chance in beating him then talks more about looking far and wide to find a challenge but still came up empty. The lights go off for a bit then we see a spotlight on the platform as The Undertaker & Paul Bearer are on the stage. Cornette is freaked out as Bearer says there is no fear in the Undertaker’s eyes as Undertaker and Yokozuna have an intense stare down. Yokozuna screams then Undertaker gets in his face and issues a challenge:for Yokozuna to bring his belt and soul to the darkside. Vince then says perhaps its the “man in black” who beats Yokozuna as the show goes off the air. Strong segment and really, Undertaker was the most viable non-Luger challenger for Yokozuna at this point. Easily the best thing on the show.

Final Thoughts: The Yokozuna/Undertaker angle was good as that is the new World Heavyweight Title and they spent a lot of time pushing The Quebecers title defense on RAW. However, the big news out of this taping was Lex Luger getting hurt in a dark match against Shawn Michaels as he ended up missing the rest of this taping cycle due to having to fly back home to Atlanta. Luger ended up missing a few weeks of action as a result while his feud with Borga was about to get heavily pushed.
