Indies and Insanity: May 23, 2019
By Andy PG on May 23, 2019
Bucks! Raptors! It’s a PIVOTAL Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals!
My younger sister is getting married on Saturday. Pray for my sanity.
Check out Princess’ review of the Moolah episode; that is some quality documentary-ing.
And then, let’s see what the weekend brings in independents!
It’s a US holiday weekend, so this oughta be good:
- With CMLL Super Viernes, I usually talk abut their top trios match and their lightning match, but this time the singles match is for a full time limit and is the main event! So if you do watch on the internet or through Claro, get ready for Barbaro Cavernario vs. Mistico II!
- AIW gives us a Saturday Night special as they host Little Guido’s Beer Bash! Joshua Bishop defends his title against Zach Thomas, but the title match features Guido and Tracy Smothers against the Production — so if I don’t hype up that match in this report, straight up, everybody dies!
- This weekend gives us CHIKARA’s Aniversario double-shot! They open Saturday afternoon in Pittsburgh as hometown girl Lady Frost faces BLANK, while Still Life with Apricots and Pears defends their Young Lions Cup against Green Ant II! Then, Sunday night in Chicago, we get the big match as Boomer Hatfield faces his “father” Dasher in an Apuesta! In another big match, Solo Darling faces off against Icarus! (Thanks to BoD member Donald Theriault for catching an error in the original post; I strive for accuracy in my work!)
- Meanwhile, in Hamilton, ON, A1 wrestling presents Immortal Kombat VI on Sunday! Kobe Durst defends the big gold against Sami Callihan, but the winner will have to look over his shoulder – Anthony Greene, Jake Parnell, Trey Miguel, and more compete in a MITB-style ladder match! Also, Ethan Page takes on a former World Champion who has answered the call to defend his legacy against all okay fine it’s David Arquette.
- Your SHOW OF THE WEEK is the IWTV’s Midwest Mixtape (Sunday afternoon), as a bunch of promotions gather in Chicago. Top women’s action features TNA’s Jordynne Grace against Allie Kat! Ace Steel takes on Arik Cannon in a battle of Midwest indie vets! And up top, the IWTV Championship is on the line as Orange Cassidy faces Kris Statlander!
- Progress presents a Chapter in London on Sunday, but it’s Turn Back the Clock Night as we celebrate 1988! Wrestlers appearing include… uh… well… I mean, I have no idea because PROGRESS has listed everyone under 80s-esque pseudonyms (Johnny Swayze! Candy Lauper! Marty Fox! The Teflon Sheik!), but I’m not sure it matters or that anything from this show is canon… I mean, enjoy it!
- Meanwhile, the DC area returns from a chaotic hiatus as Prime Time Pro Wrestling debuts Sunday afternoon in Northeast DC with Grapitol City! The highlight will be a 1-show, 8-person tournament to name the first ever champion, with young up-and-comers such as Faye Jackson, Isaiah Frazier, and Breaux Keller among those gunning for the gold!
Your Match of the Week is from CHIKARA as they celebrate founder Mike Quackenbush’s 25th anniversary as a wrestler. Along those lines, here he is facing Zack Sabre Jr.!
Bring the insanity!
