Your hosts are Joe Fowler and Bobby Heenan. This is Fowler’s debut as co-host of the show. We get a bit at the beginning with Heenan gloating about being the solo host of the show until he is introduced to Fowler, who takes his chair.
This week’s featured match is the Heavenly Bodies vs. Smoking Gunns
Heavenly Bodies w/ Jim Cornette vs. Smoking Gunns
This took place at the 8/31 “Superstars” tapings in Grand Rapids, MI. Jim Ross and Gorilla Monsoon are your announcers. Cornette nearly has a heart attack after the Gunns fired off their blanks and asks him team to take his pulse. Billy and Prichard start things off with Billy taking control. The match breaks down with the Gunns using a few stereo moves as they end up clearing the ring. Things settle down with the Gunns working the arm of Prichard. Prichard backs Bart into the corner as the Bodies fire away but Billy runs in as the match breaks down once again with the Gunns in control as the Bodies do some comedy spots before regrouping outside with Cornette. We go to break then return with the Gunns working over Del Ray. Prichard makes a blind tag and takes Bart down from behind as the Bodies finally take control of the match. Prichard dumps Bart after hitting a suplex then distracts the ref so Del Ray can hit a running somersault senton from the apron. Del Ray tags but soon after that misses a flying headbutt. Billy tags in and runs wild but the match breaks down. The Gunns try to hit the back drop/piledriver combo on Del Ray but Cornette whacked Bart from behind with the tennis racket and Del Ray lands on top as Billy goes after Prichard and the Bodies get the win (6:09 shown) **1/4. Ross screams about the Bodies stealing the match.
Thoughts: Fun match that was all action. The Bodies & Cornette in particular did a fine job in their roles and did everything possible to get the match over with the crowd.
Back to the studio with Fowler asking Heenan about the match as Heenan wants his chair back then changes his mind and wants another one but is handed an orange crate instead.
We see The Quebecers vs. The Steiners from “Monday Night RAW” joined in progress with The Quebecers winning the title.
Once again we are back in the studio with Heenan now upset over having a crappy wooden stool as Fowler says we will get a feature on Ludvig Borga coming up next.
Ludvig Borga is standing on a river bank going on about Americans polluting what was once a beautiful river. He then says Lex Luger is a “garbage driver” because he is the leader of the garbage Americans. We then go back to the studio as resident genius Joe Fowler says this is heading towards a showdown between Luger and Borga. Heenan now has a folding chair.
Ludvig Borga defeats PJ Walker from the 9/18 edition of “Superstars.”
King’s Court with guest Jack Tunney is shown from the 9/19 edition of “Wrestling Challenge.”
In the studio, Fowler says it sounds like Lawler and Hart can go at it anytime, anywhere. Christ, he’s useless.
Bret Hart defeats Blake Beverly from the 9/18 edition of “Superstars.” . However, in this version, Gorilla draws a chicken wearing a crown that’s supposed to be Lawler in Bret’s Sharpshooter.
The Headshrinkers defeat Tony Roy & Mike Davis from the 9/19 edition of “Wrestling Challenge.”
In the studio, the announcers talk about the 1-2-3 Kid being attacked by Shawn Michaels & Diesel from the 9/18 edition of “Superstars.”
The hosts run down next week’s show as Heenan is upset over Fowler returning next week.
Final Thoughts: The featured match was fun but the real news was Fowler debuting on this show. And Fowler was so bad that Heenan couldn’t get anything out of him. They had zero chemistry and I realize they just worked together for the first time but it was even worse than you could imagine under those parameters. Fowler’s material did make him seem like Captain Obvious but is delivery and cadence was not there. He was in over his head.
