Indies and Insanity: April 18, 2019
By Andy PG on April 18, 2019
Fun fact: I was considering renaming this the Independent Insanity Experience, but Scott talked me out of it.
(There you go, Scott; the joke has jumped the shark because I used it. You’re welcome.)
Today’s Playoff Games: in the NBA, we have Warriors(1)/Clippers(1), Nuggets(1)/Spurs(1), and Sixers(1)/Nets(1). In the NHL, we have Capitals(2)/Hurricanes(1), Blues(2)/Jets(2), and Knights(3)/Sharks(1). Also, I hear Steven Stamkos finally scored 1 during the NHL offseason, but it was on the 8th hole. HEYO!
Okay, let’s do the indie report before everyone demands I lose posting privileges. Again.
Not the strongest week on the indie scene as everyone still recovers from being a WrestleMania, but we got a couple of awesome ones to talk about.
- As always, CMLL Super Viernes is coming up Friday night, and it’ll be Stage Two of the Torneo Increible de Parejas! As a reminder, this means “wacky tag partners who hate each other”. Eight such teams will try to deal with each other long enough to make the finals next week, where they will face Barbaro Cavernario and Titan. Also, your Lightning Match is Rey Cometa facing Kawato San.
- Freelance Wrestling will be with you Friday Night in Chicago for Burn After Reading! Kylie Rae defends the big gold against Ethan Page, while the WorkHorsemen defend the tag gold in a triple threat match against the Space Pirates and the unorthodox team of Alex Ohlson and Rickey Shane Page! Also, Eye Candy Elliott has been doing “the ladies wanna bang me” gimmick, but he meets his match — so to speak — in Joey Ryan!
- Your PROMOTION OF THE WEEK is Black Label Pro, which presents the Player’s Brawl Saturday afternoon in South Bend! Big gold champ Kobe Durst teams with Jake Lander/Tre LaMar against tag champs Shane Sabre/Space Monkey and Ethan Page, and all the gold is on the line! Marko Stunt continues his comeback against his brother Logan! Jordynne Grace faces Nick Gage! Allie Kat goes against Joey Ryan! Allysin Kay and Maria Manic beat each other up!
- Yes, folks, I take requests, and we received one for this show over the emails: PWX is in Gastonia (near Charlotte) on Saturday night for Heroes/Villains! I’m glad to include it, as we have a local story main event of the Syndicate taking on Ethan Case, John Skyler, and Slim J, sure… but I wanna call out Revolt taking on Best Friends, and former NOVA Pro regular Alexander James taking on Harlem Bravado!
- Sunday afternoon in Nashville has SUP giving us Hold Your Ground! The top title is on the line as Brett Ison defends against JD Drake. Two NOVA Pro alums face off as Allie Kat meets Logan Easton LaRoux. Both Dominic Garrini and Kevin Ku have open challenges. Plus Logan Stunt, Cabana Man Dan, O’Shay Edwards, AC Mack, and more!
While it is a light preview time, let’s include an amazing Match Of The Week. This comes to us from OTT Wrestling in Dublin, Ireland: Shane Strickland, Bandido, and Flamita take on EVIL, SANADA, and Tetsuya Naito! (NOTE: match intros begin around the 1:57 mark).
Bring the insanity!
