July 10, 1993
From the Huntington Civic Center in Huntington, WV
Your hosts are Vince McMahon, “Macho Man” Randy Savage, and Jerry “The King” Lawler
We see the same video package about the Stars & Stripes Challenge that we saw on “Monday Night RAW” except this time its narrated by Jim Ross.
An ad for SummerSlam appears.
Smoking Gunns vs. WT Jones & Rock Werner
Vince talks about Fuji declining Luger’s challenge for a World Heavyweight Title match but that he accepted Crush’s challenge for a title match on RAW next week. We also see some young woman in the crowd eye-fucking the Gunns like no one has been ever before. The Gunns start off by working over Jones. Werner is in now as Vince puts over the Gunns physique then asks Lawler’s thoughts about health food, with Lawler saying it makes him sick. The Gunns stay in control then use the back drop/piledriver combo for the win (2:22).
Thoughts: The announcers are getting over the fact Fuji is refusing to give Luger a title shot while plugging Yokozuna’s title defense this coming Monday against Crush.
Crush comes out for his match against Doink. We then see Doink on the video wall calling Crush “stupid” for not knowing how many Doink’s there are with the screen splitting into 16 Doinks then a Doink comes from behind and attacks Crush.
Crush vs. Doink the Clown
Doink hammers away on Crush as Vince says he put something in his eyes. Doink then uses a neckbreaker and after that applies a Boston Crab while holding on the ropes for leverage. Doink now kicks away in the corner but we see Crush getting pissed then he hammers away. Crush uses a back drop but Doink takes control once again and now targets the leg. Vince wants to know how many Doinks there are as Crush uses an enziguiri. Doink rakes the eyes but eats boot on a charge then Crush stalks Doink before choking him out. Crush slingshots Doink then follows Doink outside but is cut off after heading back into the ring. We head to break then return with Crush using a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker. Doink begs for mercy then Crush catches a kick attempt and spins Doink around for an atomic drop. Doink rakes Crush’s eyes then puts on a sleeper but Crush gets back to his feet and rams Doink into the corner. Doink comes back with a flying clothesline then follows with a slam. Doink now heads up top and tries a sit-down splash but Crush gets his knees up and Doink gets crotched. Crush hammers away and prevents Doink from escaping. Crush stays in control then Doink fights back and uses a crossbody and they both spill outside in a terribly orchestrated spot. Both men brawl for a bit then Crush uses a back drop and rolls inside to just beat the ten count (11:30) *1/2. Doink attacks Crush after the match then is backed off by the refs but as that happens the second Doink runs out with two sticks and attacks Crush. The original Doink returns and they both beat down Crush until a few referees finally get them to stop.
Thoughts: I did not care for the match itself as Crush really struggles in a match that isn’t power vs. speed. He really looked lost here even with a vet like Doink. Plus, the finish was lame and it did not do any favors for Crush’s momentum heading into his title match against Yokozuna. It also ended up being the blowoff match of this over six month long feud, which certainly ended with a whimper. Crowd did not seem much into Crush and with him once again getting foiled by the multiple Doinks its not hard to see why.
We now get a video packaged narrated by Gene Okerlund to hype up next week’s Tag Team Title match between The Steiner Brothers and Money Inc. I do like these hype videos.
Shawn Michaels w/ Diesel vs. Kevin Kruger
They work an Irish whip sequence that ends with Shawn shoving down Kruger. We see a “WWF Magazine” article in an insert promo about Shawn Michaels and Mr. Perfect as Shawn stays in control. Vince once again hypes up Yokozuna vs. Crush coming up on RAW as Shawn takes Kruger down with a flying clothesline then follows with a super kick before the piledriver gets the win (3:08).
Thoughts: Shawn is even more arrogant than before now that he has Diesel watching his back. Shawn was great here with his mannerisms too as this you can tell this act will be heavily pushed going forward.
SummerSlam Report with Gene Okerlund. We learn that Bret Hart vs. Jerry Lawler will take place then hear from Bret as he cuts a fiery promo about getting revenge on Lawler. Good stuff from Bret.
Mitch Bishop & Chad Miller vs. Men on a Mission w/ Oscar
Miller and Mo start things off. Miller shoves Mo after a break but Mo fights back. Mabel tags into the match and beats down Miller as Savage raps briefly about Men on a Mission. Mo is in and catches Bishop with a powerslam then we see Oscar tell us “we on a mission, baby” and Vince cackles like a moron despite Oscar looking as lame as humanly possible. Mabel is in and hits his spinning heel kick but this West Virginia crowd does not care then Men on a Mission use a front suplex/flying leg drop combo for the win (2:45).
Thoughts: Man, did the MoM fall flat in West Virginia. Unsurprisingly, the cowboy act was more over with these fans. Anyway, Vince’s over exaggerated laughter and the act coming off more corny with each passing week is not helping.
Next week, we will hear from Lex Luger. Also, Steiner Brothers defend the Tag Team Titles against Money Inc.
Final Thoughts: We had a long featured match plus had the first match announced for SummerSlam. And, they once again brought up how Fuji failed to grant Luger a shot at the World Heavyweight Title so expect that to be a focus going forward.
