We get it already – he’s overcoming the odds

By Scott Keith on March 26, 2019

I seriously can't recall a build where such an obsessive focus on making babyfaces into underdogs colored the booking.
1. Aside from seeing them exchange the title like it was 1999, why the hell would I be interested in Finn (who values the title so much he's smiling a week after losing it, but I digress) facing a guy who couldn't beat him with a partner and three guys on the outside? Finn had to beat the odds though, so it happened.
2. If Samoa Joe or Randy Orton (two top heels, mind you) can't beat an exhausted Kofi in a gauntlet match, how can I take them seriously in their own respective matches against two supposed top guys (AJ and Rey)? How could I take them seriously against Kofi one on one in the future? Again though, Kofi has to beat those odds.
3. Why is Kurt being sent out there when it both kills off his appeal as a would-be special attraction and he looks horrible?
4. Why is another champion in Samoa Joe losing clean?

Now they're even desperately trying to get over the narrative that Reigns is clearly outmatched by Drew – y'know, the guy who traded wins with Dolph and Finn. Enough with this overdone insistence on a babyface having to become a helpless underdog. It forces a formula onto the shows like it was universe mode in a WWE 2K game.

It's because that trick worked once with Daniel Bryan, 5 years ago, so now that's the only way they know how to book babyfaces. In particular the Kofi push to the title is really tiresome, especially since it was such a simple story and they've horribly overcomplicated it and exposed Kofi in the ring at the same time. It's quite the feat. And don't forget Becky overcoming her cripping leg injury week after week!

I really have no particular interest in Wrestlemania past it being the PPV of the month, and it's really sad. In particular, the Brock-Seth match just feels like a match, so no wonder it's underneath the Women's title.
