Your hosts are Gene Okerlund and Bobby Heenan, who are on location at Peggy’s Cove in Nova Scotia, Canada. And by location I mean in front of a green screen.
We see The Kid’s decline Razor Ramon’s $5,000 offer for a rematch that first aired on RAW.
Razor Ramon vs. Crush
Your hosts are Gorilla Monsoon and Jim Ross, not The Wizard like we were told by the hosts. This match took place at the 5/25 Sydney, Nova Scotia “Wrestling Challenge” tapings. Crush shoves Razor outside as the announcers talk about Hulk Hogan having to face a now 550 lbs Yokozuna. Crush now works the arm then after that powers out of a full nelson and puts it on Razor, who is unable to power out himself so he reaches the ropes. Crush keeps dragging him away from the ropes then Razor puts both feet on the ropes so Crush just lets go as Razor drops to the mat. We hear some of the “1-2-3” chants as Razor thumbs Crush in the eye then hammers away. Crush catches Razor with a backbreaker but misses a charge in the corner as Razor now stomps the back. Razor now slaps on an abdominal stretch while holding onto the ropes for leverage when the ref turns his back. Crush breaks it up with a hip toss but misses an elbow drop then Razor puts on a single leg crab and once again uses the ropes for leverage. We go to break then return with Razor slapping Crush across the face while holding the leg but Crush stops that with an enziguiri. Crush now fires away and hits a big boot before using a press slam. Crush now uses a leg drop then applies the head vice but Razor drops down and kicks Crush in the face. Razor hits a back suplex as Gorilla keeps repeating how he does understand why these guys would take this match so close to the PPV. Razor has Crush up for the Razor’s Edge and is able to hit the move. Razor taunts the crowd and ref before covering and only ends up getting a two count. Razor is pissed but ends up getting kicked outside then Crush heads out and the two keep pulling each other down off the apron and end up getting counted out (9:41 shown) *1/2. After the match, Crush grabs the mic and says the crowd does not want to see a count out but rather a “1-2-3” and leads the crowd in a chant that riles up the bad guy. Razor then taunts the crowd before leaving.
Thoughts: Slow, basic match with both men being protected heading into the PPV thus the lame finish. They once again stressed chanting 1-2-3 at Razor.
Back to the hosts as they try to fish.
The Smoking Gunns defeat Dale Wolfe & Gus Kantarakis in a match first shown on the 6/5 edition of “Superstars.”
We cut back to the hosts and learn that all of the tickets are sold out for the King of the Ring. They go over the tournament bracket afterwards before discussing the rest of the card.
Mr. Fuji & Yokozuna are shown with Fuji promising to make the people of Japan happy when Yokozuna becomes the champion.
Mr. Hughes defeats Bert Centeno in a match first shown on the 5/31 edition of “Monday Night RAW.”
The hosts plug the King of the Ring Hotline.
Owen Hart defeats Ricky Rich in a match from the 6/6 edition of “Wrestling Challenge.”
The Hacksaw Jim Duggan “USA” music video is shown.
Adam Bomb defeats Chris Simpson from the 6/6 edition of “Wrestling Challenge.”
Lex Luger defeats Jason Knight. Again, the hosts introduce us to this match saying its called by Gorilla and The Wizard but Gorilla says he heard that The Wizard’s crystal ball rolled off of his table and fell on his foot, fracturing several metatarsals. Both announcers then mentioned how Wizard was carried away by the “guys in the white coats.” So, last week was in fact the final appearance of the dreadful Wizard character but don’t you worry as Bruce Prichard would soon get another character.
Heenan is now shown fishing as Okerlund tells us that next week’s featured match is The Steiners & Tatanka vs. Money Inc. & Doink the Clown in a Best of Three Falls match. I will be recapping this show too.
Final Thoughts: The best news here is that The Wizard is no longer with us. The featured match was dull (but did feature two upper card workers which was a rarity) and the rest of the show hyped the PPV and recycled some of this week’s squash matches.
