Wrestling tropes that you hate?
By Scott Keith on March 2, 2019
What tropes in pro wrestling can't you stand/get on your nerves? Mine is hands down the old "the referees decisions are final….unless we need them as the result of lazy storytelling." You know the deal; Wrestler loses with his foot on the ropes/illegal man in the ring, so a ref comes from the back to tell the original ref what happened. Original ref restarts the match. Of course this never seems to be the case when there is outside interference, or when the 99 other times that a wrestler loses by controversial means.
Refereeing is a fascinating trope in that you have to establish something happening that literally everyone in a 10,000 seat arena can see, including both wrestlers in the ring and all the announcers and everyone watching on the giant screen…but not the referee in the ring. Peripheral vision is definitely not a prerequisite of being a referee in the wrestling world.
