Todd Pettengill is your host
We are shown Mr. Perfect attacking Shawn Michaels outside of the Manhattan roughly an hour before RAW then we see the Lumberjack Match between Shawn and Jim Duggan.
Pettengill plugs Mr. Perfect vs. Doink the Clown this week on “Wrestling Challenge” in a King of the Ring qualifying rematch.
Back from break, Pettengill plugs the WWF Posters magazine.
Damien Demento & Brooklyn Brawler vs. Smoking Gunns
Gorilla Monsoon & The Wizard (Bruce Prichard) are on commentary. This was filmed at the 5/10 RAW taping. The Gunns theme music is some generic country song with gunshots then the Gunns actually fire off guns (they were blanks) in the ring. Well, they were shooting blanks. Wizard’s commentary is horrendous. Brawler chops Billy but Billy fights back. Billy uses a leg drop before tagging out as Wizard tells us the Gunns are cousins. Demento and Bart are now in the ring with Bart using a backslide for a two count. The Gunns double-team Demento with Wizard using lame redneck jokes to describe the Gunns until Brawler low-bridges Bart. Brawler & Demento run interference to double-team Bart and cut the ring in half. Wizard makes more awful jokes that are starting to make me yearn for Rob Bartlett as Demento locks on a rear chinlock. Are few “boring” chants can be heard then Bart and Demento collide as both men are down. Bart tags out as Billy runs wild and gets some cheers then he tags to Bart, who comes off of the top with a sunset flip for the win (6:48) 1/2*. Wizard says he was not impressed and I agree.
Thoughts: Christ, what a terrible way to debut a team. The match itself sucked save for Billy’s hot tag at the end. And a top rope sunset flip for the win is not very strong for a singles wrestler, nevermind a tag team. They sold most of the match for a guy who has been an enhancement talent for a decade and a character that has been a flop and treated as lower card talent. Its no wonder the crowd was dead. And the hokey entrance did zero favors. The Wizard character for Prichard was also terrible but short-lived and primarily on “All-American Wrestling.” It was slightly better than Rob Bartlett.
Back in the studio as we get some sound effects for Pettengill as he plays with a super soaker.
Pettengill then wears some shades and does a Macho Man Randy Savage impression before plugging tomorrow’s edition of “All American Wrestling.” Pettengill then pulls out a sweatshirt he claims is from Heenan’s locker and out comes a Hulk Hogan tank top to show that Heenan is secretly a Hogan fan.
Razor Ramon defeats El Matador in a King of the Ring Qualifying match from the 5/8 edition of “Superstars.”
King of the Ring Report airs.
Yokozuna defeats Sean Dakota from the 5/8 edition of “Superstars.”
Back to the studio with Pettengill believing Yokozuna does not weigh his announced weight of 505 lbs and says its closer to 550 lbs. He then pulls out a Hogan poster to hype their King of the Ring match.
We get a plug for Yokozuna vs. Kamala this coming Monday on RAW.
The show ends with Pettengill plugging the “Smack’em, Whack’em” Coliseum Home Video release and mentions how the Bret Hart vs. Shawn Michaels ladder match is included.
Final Thoughts: The Gunns debut was highly disappointing but the rest of the show served a purpose of highlighting the key points of last week’s TV so if you missed any of that you got caught up with this show.
